OMG I've just found and started reading the dog in the garden thread. I haven't laughed so much in a long time!

I don't understand why the solicitor is advising to expect completion not to happen. It's entirely under his control, isn't it, since he's executing the estate as well as handling the conveyancing? The daughter is literally not a party to the proceedings at all. Legally, she has no relevance whatsoever to the property transaction. Surely the worst she can do is squat?

Is an executor allowed to dispose of assets while a will is being contested?

But technically, wasn't the asset disposed of at exchange??
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

Assuming the will doesn't name the house, I don't see why not. It's not distributing the estate, it's just liquidating it. I think there's a stronger argument for the executor not being allowed to FAIL to complete, since that incurs avoidable cost to the estate!

Can someone remind me, please? Before the sale was agreed did the seller get independent valuations from accredited estate agents?
Given the friendship/ relationship of seller with OP, I would hope so, as a sale at an undervalue could adversely lower the deceased's estate value, but yield the OP undue benefit.

Those solicitors are pretty efficient if the lady died so recently, yet they are able to give exact entitlements in £ already.
