One point to consider - have you had insurance in place since exchange?
You don't want to complete and find the place has been vandalised when you get the keys.
Also if the daughter wants to have the property herself, what will happen to the flat you mentioned?
Another good point.
I would also advise getting the (usually optional) legal cover on the insurance if possible.0 -
A quick update as my solicitor returned from his holidays over the weekend.
I was reassured that as we have exchanged then they are legally obliged to complete. He did say that if that didn't happen then it can a bit messy but all costs will pass to the sellers estate.
He has spoken to the vendors solicitor (they know each other socially as well it appears) and they did inform him that I had incorrectly been invited to a meeting on Tuesday. It was a pure mix up with a admin member of staff.
We did discuss the daughters offer and he did advise me not to have any more communication with her. I haven't blocked her number but I won't answer a call from her or reply to any messages, some of which I did receive over the weekend. I have simply forwarded these onto my solicitor so he has a record.
I did emphasize to him that we need to complete as we have a secondary school application coming up and the address is needed.
I was told that the vendors solicitor is also the executors of her will.
We complete on 18th Sept, so I expect many sleepless nights before then.0 -
Good luck! Keep us updated!Despite my name, I'm not a student any more0

In this instance, the solicitors being executors is probably a good think my - better than it being the daughter. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Is there any way that you could send a friend round to the house to see if the daughter has moved in?
They could check that the house hasn’t been trashed in the process.
Good news about the solicitor being executor. Should make it simpler.0 -
That all sounds a lot more positive. Hopefully now the solicitor is back and is responsible for managing the estate he can take control of the situation and be frank with the daughter about what will be happening.
Good luck!0 -
she should conduct all further communication through our solicitor .... and then I said goodbye to her
She's quite the little madam, isn't she?
So despite having been told this on Friday, she has defied your stated wishes and continued to contact you through the weekend.
I suspect this might get worse before it gets better unless her solicitor reads the Riot Act and tells her where to get off!
I've got vegetables in my fridge with more common sense than this :rotfl:
Good luck.0 -

I would request an additional viewing of the property "to measure for curtains" or whatever.
Although it's the EA who you'd normally ask, in this case perhaps do it via solicitors. By the sound of it the Estate's solicitor should agree, and arrange access via the EA and you can nosy around a bit......0 -
Great news that the solicitor is executor of the estate. That should (touch wood) make things much simpler!0
