Ah but it's OLED not oled, that's why I missed it.
  • No other actions. Turned tv off and it simply won't now switch on. Makes the sound as if it will, but then stops and turns off. I just can't understand why the smallest of chips in what I would consider to be a bezel can do that to an entire tv. (And also how a cat can chip modern-or frankly victorian- glass at all).

Flat screen TVs aren't the most hardwearing of electricals and are quite fragile.

When your house contents insurance comes up for renewal, the accidental damage cover option isn't a very expensive additional cost.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

So how did the scratch develop in to a chip? Was someone rubbing the screen over the scratch to see if they could rub it away, or spray some cleaner on etc? Or are you saying that, completely untouched, what was a scratch became a chip? And then, again completely untouched, that chip developed in to a crack (i.e. the vertical line)?

It may not have been you rubbing that scratch - it might have been someone else in the household who is denying any liability... but that sequence of events does not happen unaided.

Sadly though, however it was caused, its impact related, and won't be covered by the retailer/manufacturer. Repair or replace via (self) insurance is your only route.

    Sounds unlikely to me.

You could easily have mitigated this by not allowing your cat to jump up and scratch the tv.

    :rotfl: This made me chuckle.

You won't have much luck trying to tell a cat what to do!

    A cat can't scratch glass, it's plastic.
