Hi, as I have had several jobs, how do I trace my existing pensions with my old companies as i have no idea where my paperwork is.

  • Also be prepared to contact your previous employers - I used the Pension Tracing Service for one past pension and they couldn't find it despite multiple attempts - they just kept sending me details of a couple of pensions I already had all the paperwork for.

Eventually I contacted my old employer and they had the details even though I hadn't worked there in over ten years.
  • Coincidentally I did this yesterday for 2 employers I worked for in the early 80's and one in the early 90's. The Tracing Authority could find no record of the first employer and neither could I on Google. The second and third employers had long been swallowed up into other companies. The Tracing Authority provided phone numbers of the scheme providers and I then contacted them. Regrettably they did not have any record of me (searching on NINO, Name and DOB).

I was not really surprised having only worked 12 months at each employer and I think back then you had to work a year before you were eligible to join the pension scheme.

    Glad I checked though.

Going to check OH next. Although having worked a millennia ago as a Warehouse worker I think it very unlikely they offered a pension scheme at that time....
