One of our favourite meals is a leftover roast dinner pasty. I always end up with a couple of roast potatoes leftover and some bits of veg. So it all gets cut into small chunks. Roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, scraps of meat. I then add some peas and any leftover gravy, mix it all together in a bowl and then wrap in pastry. They are so tasty and make all the little odds and ends leftover into another whole meal. Even tastier at Christmas with some chestnut stuffing mixed in. :j:j0

I buy mince beef to make spagbol/shepherds pie/burgers and pad it out with a smaller quantity of mince pork (its really cheap!) and finely grated carrot ..
I also try and shop when stuff is reduced, and do the bulk of my shopping at a place called the company shop. (google it, there are stores across the uk, you just need to be eligible for a membership card or go with someone who has membership as there guest). = anyone around Sheffield who wants to go im more than happy to take you as my guest!wading through the treacle of life!

I use filtered milk, Cravendale is the "big" brand but Aldi do their own and it lasts much longer than ordinary milk. Apparently the filtering takes out things that make the milk go off quicker (won't go into details as it isn't pleasant) and it is nice fresh milk.
I also use Aldi non bio washing powder, my DH has allergies and I used to have to buy Persil but the Aldi one doesn't cause him any problems at all.
I use Aldi face creams and their hair dye. My hairdresser asked me what I was using as she loved the colour, when I told her it was under £2 from Aldi she was amazed. The only problem is they don't have it in all the time so when I see it I buy a few.
I'm using less meat as well and that is probably the biggest saving.
Just thought I use white vinegar instead of softener, I started using it because it is brilliant for smelly clothes and with 3 big rugby playing sons I had my fair share of smelly kit. White vinegar gets rid of any smells, acts as a natural softener and doesn't cause any problems with DH's allergies.0 -

I’d be interested in the “unpleasant” details.... currently drinking/using Hook & Sons greentop milk.0 -

As I said I don't want to put anyone off so no specifics but bacteria will speed up milk going sour, just think about what might be putting bacteria in the milk.0 -
OP where do you shop? Let your fingers do the walking and plan your shop on my supermarket, especially for the larger items like washing powder.
I wonder if you would benefit from putting a statement up on debt free board as you have nothing available for clothes and hair etc, maybe you could shave something off some of the other bills? Is your power and internet the cheapest it could be etc.
For example Iceland have Easy washing powder 100 washes for £5.49 at 5.5p per wash this is the cheapest I found on mysupermarket. I am surprised, but on a quick google just found this for £5 at B&Q of all places!0 -
There is bacteria in and on everything, including ourselves and not all of it is harmful to us, indeed much of it is very necessary for a healthy immune system. The latest research published regarding the Gut Biome is fascinating and shows how we have been going very wrong in trying to exterminate so much, which then just lets the harmful strains take over and try and kill us.
Anyone who has an interest and a few hours spare try dipping into any or all of these:-
The Clever Guts Diet - Michael Mosley
Gut - Giulia Enders
The Diet Myth - Tim Spector
The Psychobiotic Revolution - Scott C Anderson
Many of the above are acclaimed in their field and their findings are beginning to filter through to our medics who have been taught that there is a pill for every ill and happy to accommodate us with prescriptions for them:)
Someone mentioned unpasturised cheese, in my search for them I was delighted to find that my local cheese shop indicated each one with a coloured dot, great for us that are tying to consume them and also for those who may have immune conditions which would perhaps be safer not to.
Sorry for the hi-jack, I understand that for economic reasons some need long life products, but the nearer natural the better for others.
Heading off to make a note of some of the great tips mentioned, thanks all.The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -

Does the Easy washing powder leave a perfume smell on the clothes ?0 -
I use lidl formil non bio washing liquid and it's brilliant. I used to use persil but wouldn't go back now. If you wait until they have it on their super weekend they sell it for 99p for 21 washes. I stock up when the offer is on and have never bought it full price. At one point I had nearly 20 bottles in the cupboard under the stairs. Might seem overkill but with a 6 month old and a 21 month old, I do a far amount of washing. I also do the same with the dousy fabric conditoner which they have on offer for 99p for 66 washes.0
