Depends on the contract you agreed to... whilst it is beyond ridiculous to employ a claims management company, once you have then you are required to pay for the work (which you could’ve done yourself) that they have done.0

They are not "useful" at all.They have found some old accounts of mine from late 90s which I had no idea or any recollection of them, so in that way they are useful.
You could have used the exact same "scattershot" approach by similarly contacting all your likely lenders and simply asking them if you had PPI just as the Claim Firm did. Claim companies have no special investigative powers or abilities. Everything can be done by yourself, alone and for free.
As for only now going it alone, it depends totally on the contract terms you've agreed to...0
