Old Style Daily Tuesday 14th August

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Good morning everyone :hello:
I hope the absence of Holly means she has actually got a good night's sleep xx
I thought I would start us off as I am bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning after having a restful night. It makes such a massive difference to my energy levels, I feel I can take on the world today :D.

Lee has the gym today so I will make sure he is up and running in plenty of time. He is having graded exposure to going out on his own so this week he is getting a lift to the gym with his care coordinator and then taking the bus back on his own. I always worry until he is back home but it seems to be working to build up his confidence. I am then going to teach him to make pasties for lunch for him and his sisters.

Dinner tonight is a bit mixed, Steve and I are going to have chicken and veg curry with oven chips and the kids are having pizza. I then have some blackberries and apple to do something with. There is a recipe for a crumble but with a cornflake topping that looks quite nice, I think I have made it before from the Hairy Dieters book.

I am going to have a nice day cross stitching again as I want to finish the piece I am working on before the end of the month so I can make a start on my Christmas stitching...sorry for the C word but all you crafters know how it is :rotfl:.

Sending out hugs and cwtchs to all the poorly and worried, hope you have a better day today xx
  • Morning folks and thanks DUMPLING.

I have been MIA again as not a lot to waffle on about and not felt too sociable either come to that. Mr TA is still in hospital. Now in the 4th different bed since he went in 10 days ago. Yesterday was the last day of the IV a/b drip treating the infection which set everything off. He looks much better than he did but his mobility is still not back to base line so physio coming twice a day to do gentle exercise and walking (slowly) up and down the corridor with a zimmer. The Road-Runner he's not but he is improving slowly.

Today is the dreaded day and he is allowed to travel to Leeds for the Oncology appointment for the results of the urgent scans. I am going with him and need to be at the hospital by 9.00 this morning ready for the ambulance that's taking us there. DD is coming to pick me up at 8.30 to get me there on time.

I have been visiting 11 till 8.00 every day and they are long days. We have a good family support network with his DB and 2 DS, my DB and SIL and, of course, our kids and DGDs visiting all the time and giving me lifts back and forth. Me Me has been a revelation and is popping in with meals for me to pop in the mw when I get home, knowing I will be too tired to be bothered making myself much. I take a goody bag of sandwiches and snacks to the hospital to sustain me throughout the day and, at this rate, I will be like a bacon pig when he gets out!

Another cup of coffee and then I will make up today's snack pack and have my breakfast before getting myself ready.

Hope everything is going as well as it can for everybody and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. And thank you so much to those who have PM'd me. It's nice to know people care. xxxx

Up bright and early for work, not said that for 6 weeks! Packed lunch made, water bottle filled and raring to go. I'm sure I will have peaked by 10 O'Clock!

Hope everything goes OK today TA, will be thinking of you.
You sound very up beat dumpling, have a good day!
    Belated birthday greetings Elona.
Hope the funeral went as well as these things can tru.

Cleared the courgette plants from the allotment yesterday and pulled up the onions, they are now drying in the greenhouse. The veg beds look very bare now, just hoping the leeks grow.

The beans are of the french variety RR, I'll look up a recipe for chutney, good idea thanks.

Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Having spent yesterday in all day I feel the need to get out somewhere today. I think I will probably end up going to one of the local larger towns and doing a bit of window shopping. I have got a couple of birthdays coming up so can have a look for gifts.

Dinner yesterday ended up being an easy cod, oven chips and peas from the freezer. I just wasn’t in the mood to cook much. I’ve got some mince out of the freezer to make a spaghetti Bolognese for tonight and there is some ice cream for dessert.

I have a small amount of washing in in the laundry basket but that can wait until there is a full load.

Unfortunately I was up Dumpling but I am having intermittent broadband problems and they can't fix it until Thursday :(.

Thinking of you and your OH today TA.

Camelot I hope that you have a good first day back at work and it isn't too stressful.

I hope that you all have a decent day.

    Morning everyone

dumpling - thanks for starting us off, I've started on the healthy eating again and get weighed tonight - hope I've lost something as I've been very good all week except too much wine on Sunday - we'll see!

TA's - hope today goes ok, we're all thinking of you x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Cloudy and overcast but dry underfoot and not cold, sun may make an appearance at some point.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, he'll be catching a lift with me so he can go to the gym.

Dinner last night was egg, bacon, breaded chicken portions, beans and toast for the menfolk. I had bacon, scrambled egg and beans - can't remember the last time I had something like that and it went down a treat. Tonight the menfolk will have smoked sausage and mushroom pasta in a creme fraiche sauce, I'll cook theirs first, go get weighed then have mine when I get back, I'm having meatballs with HM tomato sauce with pasta.

Work yesterday was very quiet to start off, then went manic and stayed that way for most of the day, but we had the forecast storm and torrential rain early afternoon so that slowed everything down. We'll see what today brings.

It didn't take me as long as we thought it would to go and collect DS2 from where my parents are camping, they were pleased of his help and had everything set up by lunchtime, so they had some lunch then wandered down to the seafront/beach and had a walk for a while, they didn't get the rain we did until just before I arrived at 5.15pm. Hoping dad gets some respite whilst they are away.

    Keep safe and well x

Dumpling, well done to Lee, I hope he manages to gain his independence.

TA, best wishes for the appointment.

We had a busy day yesterday. We went into the city to see a comedy show, had lunch and met friends at Waverley. They are staying with us till Thursday, he is Steve's best friend, they have known each other since they were two.

We came back to the house and the friends and I went down and walked along the prom while Steve had a nap. Then we went back into Edinburgh for a play and ate there as well. All in all I walked over 21,000 steps yesterday so I slept well. Everyone else is still in bed so I'll wait to have my shower until they are up. Tattoo tonight so I hope it doesn't rain for that. I think we'll stay here today so that Steve can have a rest before we go in.

 Sorry haven't posted for a while...please can I trade in a recalcitrant husband for 2 teenagers - I'm sure they are easier to manage! Not much else happening here - work, allotment & home seems to be the order of most days.

TA thinking of you both today xx
NMLC hope you've lost something tonight!

    Morning everyone.

This morning I’m going home though only until Thursday. :j. DM’s fridge is stuffed full and she has her pill box all sorted. Written instructions are ready too. :rotfl: Her cleaner is going to send her a text when coming off the bus so that DM is ready for the doorbell, she can’t hear it but a light flashes in the house instead.

I did a bit of work yesterday, getting ready for the start of semester one. Then I got asked to teach another group for 12 weeks, decided that I may as well do it. This may well be my last year of wanting to work, I only do part time and I enjoy it. Next year I may not enjoy it so much.

TA - huge good thoughts and hugs to you and MrTA.

    Happy Tuesday to all.
