Apologies I didn't come back to the tread.

Anyway this website tends to be a good one

I didn't really do a lot of research, just went with terrys because they were cheap and my mum knew how to fold them lol! I did shaped ones, like a previous poster I used little lambs, but I never got on with wraps and used the cheap and boring plastic pants.

And a word of warning, you can end up spending ALL the money on cute wraps, there are sites where you can personalise them etc. It's a slippery slope, while I never did it with nappies I did with slings........

And regarding clothing I never really had much of an issue and terrys are big. My fourth spent about 18months in funky leggings. Got them off ebay for about £2 each. Teamed with a bodysuit and a cardi he looked super adorable.

Just popping on to say that I loved using cloth with my two (they are 4 and seven now). Often you can pick up second hand cloth nappies cheaply which are great and save money.

Washing now is so easy that I just used to put them in same wash as normal clothes and Bio-D. Breastfed poo meant there was no issue with staining and I used flushable linings when on solids.

I hope you get on OP

  • I'd strongly recommend buying birth to potty cloth nappies. Seriously my baby wore them from birth to potty!
I started my stash with 20.
    You usually get 2 inserts.
Use the thin one for new born, then upto thicker when they get bigger. In the end you can use both at the sane time.
The poppers mean you can tailor the fit.

Buy fleece and you can cut this into liners, though I found you didn't really need a liner. Hold the clean end of the nappy and dangle dirty end into the loo and flush (possibly more than once)

    I had cheeky wipes..
Again I learned the that cheap face clothes were great and worked just as well.

I'd highly recomend monkey foot designs nappy bags.
I bought the biggest ones, i could put wet dirty nappied in them and they'd hold a few days worth.
Big hint is to push the bag inside out in the washer. This way you don't have to touch the offending nappies again

I found coconut oil was great for bums as you can't use certain nappy creams ( barrier creams like sudocream)

Again you can't use fabric conditioner!!

I used bold 2 in 1 powder, good old "nappy san".

    Definately go for it.

I sold my stash for 200 quid on ebay

  • I used them with my first and planning on the second. In terms of cost, there is no comparison in the long run. Disposable nappies are really expensive. I think the trick is to rinse them straight away with cold water and rub the dirtiest bits with natural soap. That way it will help getting them cleaner.
When it's a sunny day, if you have a drying line, hang them outside, the sun is a natural bleacher and it will sanitise them too!

My main concern was the environmental impact of disposable nappies, but all in all I only see benefits in using reusables!
  • Hi,

Cannot comment on the economics of cloth nappies, but if you buy nothing else sustainable, go for cheeky wipes. They are great. We have the bum ones and the face ones. I love them. Once you have cleaned a pooey bum with a cloth wipe, you will realise how absolutely rubbish at actually wiping baby wipes are.
  • Yeah I love reusable wipes too. Although foud cheeky wipes a bit overprices and the essence did irritate my little one's bum. I just used old pieces of cotton cloth from an old sheet!
