Indian tourist eVisa photo

I'm going to India in November this year.


I'v been looking at the indian visa website and note I have to provide a photo and a passport bio page image.


Does the photo have to be the same as in the passport or is it ok to use a current photo. The photo on my passport is about was done in 2009.

I think you will find the Visa photo is bigger than a passport photo.

Yes, as above, the size required is different from a passport photo so you can't use that.

My daughter and I went last year. We just took photos of each other on a digital camera ensuring that it met all the requirements and they were fine

The photo is a 2"x2" (5cm x 5cm)- same as for USA visa (or so I'm told)
Needs to be recent
Neutral expression, no glasses, hats, uniforms or head covering except for religious purposes
My list also says no jewellery
White background, don't wear white clothes, ears visible (!)
In colour, with no background light or shadows
Look directly into camera facing forward head straight , eyes open , mouth closed.

I've just had an Indian eVisa processed (and used). You can take a photo on your phone, against a plain background, and use that. During the visa application process online, you upload and crop your photo. Which is great, because you don't have to track down a "specialist" Indian visa photo shop to get your mugshot taken any more.

The photo is bigger and conveniently there is a photo booth in the Indian Consulate that is the only one that I know of that is the correct size. It is also more expensive than the normal ones. It does mean that you cannot apply for visas for some one else they have to attend as they have to provide their photo which is a pain

Erm...

This thread is about the eVisa, where the application process is entirely on-line, so there is no question of attending an Indian consulate.


When I last applied for a conventional visa (valid for six months, while the eVisa is only for one month) I attended one of the consular offices in London. There was then no photo-booth there but they recommended a place opposite Paddington station (nearby). However, I used one of the much cheaper booths on the station itself and it was accepted by the visa people.

I have now taken photos with my camera and faffed about with them on photoshop to get sizing/ratio etc, so I think I'm there now.


Just have to wait and see if it passes muster when I apply on-line!!

Once you have got your approval notification email back, make sure you print it out and have it with you when you go to the airport for your departure to India. The airline will want to do a visa check, and will require evidence that your eVisa has been issued. I had this last week and thankfully the BA staff at T5 were very helpful, as they allowed me to forward my email to a T5 address, where they then printed it for me. Took some faffing, so avoid the delay by having a copy pre-printed with you.

Do you have to apply for an evisa nowadays or can you still go to the embassy as before?
