Hi, I’ve just bought a 2009 Corsa 1.2. It’s leaking. Not good. I know nothing about cars. Before I take it back to the garage any idea what it might be?

Check the oil filler cap is on and closed and that the dipstick is also correctly seated in its tube. Other alternative is a damaged hose from the crankcase, not too big a job but if its under warranty they should fix it.0

Thanks sebloak. Filler cap and dipstick look good. Do you think it!!!8217;ll be ok for the 20-25 min drive to the garage? I went for a 5 min drive tonight and it was starting to smoke again when I stopped and oil still leaking. No oil warning light on the dash yet.0

Oil pressure switch.
very common fault.
Sits on left hand front top corner of engine facing forward with a single wire connector. If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it.0 -
Hi mrmechanic, thanks for the reply. The car has a 12 month warranty, are they likely to fix it under this? Is it safe to drive to the garage?0

Should be covered by warranty, but not the end of the world if it isn't as a new switch should be less than a tenner and around 2 minutes to fit it.
Make sure the oil is up to the max mark on the dipstick before driving to garage.
If not top it up.
If you put your hand under the switch when car is running (keep well away from the rotating pulleys)you will get an idea how bad the oil leak is. A couple of miles should be doable if it isn't really bad.If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it.0 -
Thanks again that!!!8217;s great. This is really bad but...how do I know what type of oil to get? Like I said I know nothing about cars and haven!!!8217;t had one for a few years before this. I haven!!!8217;t got round to sorting stuff like that out since picking it up.0

5w30 fully synthetic dexos 2.
These engines really need the proper spec oil, do not fit anything other than dexos 2.If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it.0 -
Thank you you!!!8217;ve been really helpful. I!!!8217;ll update what happens at the garage.0

As Mrmechanic has already said its probably the oil pressure switch if its any help it is right to the right of the big hose in your 3rd picture as said with the single wire coming off of it0

Hi all, just to update. Garage said they couldn't see it until Wednesday but I complained and they took it in on Sunday. Made it there with no problems and no smoke. Got it back on Tuesday. It was the oil pressure switch. Fixed under the warranty with no charge. So not so bad in the end. Thanks for all the advice.0
