Cheque cashed but they say they've not had it

Hi, I sent a cheque to SAGA SERVICES LIMITED they claim not to have received it and nothing shows on their system.

I've had a trace run on the cheque.
The cheque hasn't been altered other than some bank Stamps.

On the front there is a NAT WEST stamp with PO Box Number and sort code.

On the back there is more info but the only thing I can decipher is the DATE and LLOYDS IN The cheque was issued from my TSB account.

I tried entering the numbers in a sort code search but get nothing.

I really don't know where to go from here, does anyone have any advice?

Thanks for reading.

I would send a copy of the front and back of the cheque to the payee and ask them to query it with their bank. It should quickly become clear that you’ve paid.

Cheers, I just went back to my bank who insist it was cashed by SAGA as that's the name on the front and cleared through NW, they made a copy of the cheque front and back to send to SAGA.

I called SAGA and offered to send the copy but they say they don't need it yet and will contact their bank and chase it up with them.

They say unless there's a problem I should receive a cheque in the post.

I'm not convinced but I guess I'll have to give them a week before anything happens.

    Thanks for the reply

I don't quite understand. Did you make a second payment when Saga advised that they had not received your first cheque?

The sort code stamped on the front may just be a processing centre or similar.

There should be a long line of numbers (printed on the back) that should include the sortcode and account number of the payee - NatWest sortcodes usually begin 01, 50 or 60.

There are numbers on the back but when I tried to enter them on online checker nothing is found.

One set of numbers is hard to read as it's stamped right over my insurance account number that you have to write on the back of the cheque.

The numbers on the front are usually where the cheque was paid in.

The numbers on the back are usually automated processing information.

It's anything on the front you need to focus on - if the cheque had bounced, this is how your bank would know how to tell Saga's bank.

I've been away for a couple of weeks but as I thought nothing from SAGA.

I just contacted the Financial Ombudsman, they gave me an address to send a letter and all the information too, they should respond with a letter stating they never received it and if they don't reply I have to give them eight weeks before the Ombudsman can take it further.

Have you told Saga you want to make a formal complaint?

We got nowhere until we did this with them.

Long story but at renewal one minute we were insured then we were not so we got insurance somewhere else. They then took payment and issued a policy!!

We had to get them to listen to the calls we had made.

We got our money back with a small amount of compensation.

Their admin is useless we would never take out a policy with them again.
