Tenant problem please help

I dont know if this is the right place to post this

i've been asked to replace this stovetop for the landlord as he say i damaged his stovetop.

Is this normal wear and tear (then i will send it for dispute) or was it my fault that i damaged it?

Also can someone please tell me what the stovetop model number is please so i can find replacement/repair if needed. It is Whirlpool 58cm x 51cm Schott Caren bought in 2008.

Looks damaged to me. What did it look like when you moved in?

Looks damaged to me too, as above what did it look like when you moved in and how long have you been there? What have you been using to clean it?

Tbh its hard to tell from the pics you've provided. In the first 2 pics you posted it looks like its scratches on the other side of the glass.

Are those pictures from when you moved out?

It is difficult to know whether you are responsible without also seeing pictures from when you moved in. The pictures look like small scratches to me which I think is expected over 10 years of use.

You should also be aware that, even if you did damage the stove, the landlord is not entitled to 'betterment'. In other words, the deduction should take account of the fact that the stove was already 10 years old - the landlord is not entitled to require you to pay the whole cost of a completely new stove.

It!!!8217;s just normal wear and tear on the front right ring and if cleaned properly with proper hob cleaner and a hob scraper can be removed

I would dispute the whole lot and uses the 10 years of wear and tear as an excuse. I can't see you losing tbh.


I would certainly not be replacing it as that's a big win for the LL and as already stated betterment which the LL is not entitled too.

It looks in great condition for a 10 year old hob I!!!8217;ve seen worse after 6 months

It just looks like wear an tear from a pan being moved over it.

It happens over time with hobs like that. At 10 years old it looks quite good! I have seen far far worse!!

I've rented it for 2 years so 2016, and i cook most of my meals so 2-3 meals a day. I believe the scratches are from moving the pan while cooking which is normal?
The overall picture is just a photo found online just to ask for the model number, it is not my hob. The 2 scratched photos of the same ring that is damaged, the 3 others have no scratch. Unfortunately, i dont have a photo before so lets assume it had no scratch on it.
Other than dispute, The landlord has asked me to either repair or replace the hob. Repairing it cost 114 pounds. He has also sent me a new hob that i can replace it with that cost 250 pounds not including labour. What should i do?
