Old Style Daily Saturday 4th August 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
I had planned to try and clear up a bit of the back garden this morning before it gets too hot, but it is hot even now.
.
The bonus of being awake at this time of the morning is being able to open all the doors and windows wide and get some of the cooler air through the house before it starts to really heat up again. The temperature doesn’t seem to have dropped much tonight though/
A friend is picking me up later and we are going to have a day out somewhere, not sure where yet but it will be the coast. We will probably make a full day of it and get home later this evening. It feels like the first year for a long while that we have had a real summer and I’m pleased that I have been able to make the most of it even though it has been a bit too hot for me at times.
My thoughts are with all of you who are unwell or have poorly OHs and relatives.
I hope that you all have the best day possible.0 -
Morning everyone
hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one, there seems to be lots of people that are unwell or have family that are, thinking of you all x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday today x
Sun is shining already and it's hot - I don't think the temperature is dropping much at night.
DH and myself are enjoying cuppas, I'm showered, dressed and will be going into work. DS1 is working also this morning and left the house at 5.30am - they work early so they can finish early before it gets too hot, he'll finish at 10am. DS2 is now getting ready to go out for a run before it gets too hot.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips/jacket potatoes, beans/veg for the menfolk. I had a giant cous cous and veg stir fry (frozen bag from A**i that was lurking the bottom of the freezer) I had some plain fish with it, which I really enjoyed. Tonight will be jacket potatoes, hot quiche, scotch eggs, side salad, HM red cabbage and carrot coleslaw/HM potato salad.
My new WM arrived not too long after the start of the delivery slot, so I was pleased not to have to wait into the afternoon. I'm really pleased with it so far - although had to make a complaint as I paid for having the old machine disconnected and taken away and the new one installed. This seemed to be ok, after the delivery guys had left I was going to put all the items back into the cupboard until the sink where all the plumbing and drainage connections are and the drain hose had not had the hose clip tightened up, so was just spinning round the hose - it wouldn't have held the pipe in place had I started using the WM and I'd have had a flooded kitchen. Spoke to the delivery guys as they'd only be left 10 minutes, they wouldn't return, and said they would get another 1 sent to me, so went to the big orange shed shop and bought new hose clips and fitted it myself with the help of DS2, so all good. Rang the company I bought it from and complained as I'd paid for an installation and the machine should have been ready to use. They have said they will refund the installation fee, they will be ringing me to confirm this next week, we'll see if they do refund the money.
On to today -
We'll be visiting my parents this afternoon, other than that not much happening - chilling I think.
Keep safe and well x

camelot I would love another dog! I've been thinking about it for well over a year. It would have to be a rescue and I know Teckels (where Scampi is from) would match us perfectly – they insist on lots of meetings and at least one walk and home visit to make sure everything's OK. And they're available for advice if you're struggling with something, even after the adoption is done and dusted. But mr tru is still ignoring all doggy rules, pays no attention to Scampi's please-leave-me-alone signals then wonders why he snarls at him, won't listen to him and is so wound up sometimes. If he would just pay attention to things, another dog would be great, especially for Scampi
The washing machine has just finished, I'll hang the clothes out in a mo. We'll probably go for a walk at around 9am, there's nothing planned for today so we'll just amble about for as long as Scampi stays calm
I'll have another attempt at writing that sunflower pattern later, it's not going at all well, lol. I want to get lost in a book but I think I've read everything in the house, I'll check Amazon later and see if there's anything I fancy.

Morning All
Another grey day, thought it was going to stay dry but there's a fine drizzle falling, so glad I managed to cut the grass last night.
I picked another 6 courgettes yesterday so a pan of chutney is on the go, there's no way I could use so many before tomorrow and I don't want to waste a thing I've grown!
Hugs to all those with worries and poorly folk to look after, hope today is a better day.
I was going to DS1s today but he's really not well, he phoned last night and sounded dreadful so I'll toddle off to yoga. There's a chap who goes (the uncle of the lady who takes the class) and he is 89 today. There'll be cake after so will be worth going! This chap still cycles about 50 miles most days and is truly remarkable.
Must pack a case for tomorrow although we're not leaving until the afternoon so not too much of a hurry.
Have a good weekend, take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone and thanks for the start Holly.
Just enjoying a cuppa before going up for my shower, it’s already warm out there so another day of taking it easy in the heat, it’s been so good to have a proper summer this year.
We are off to watch my DN play football this morning, he is in the 2nd year of his apprenticeship to a local club and this year will determine whether or not he gets a professional contract, I do hope so as it’s all he’s wanted to do since he was a little chap and has worked very hard to make his dream come true.
Other than that it will be a visit to see lovely girlie this afternoon where depending on heat/energy levels we may or may not do some work.
Thoughts are with those struggling with illness or worries in their lives or families.
Have a good day folks x0 -
Morning

Very jealous of all you southern crew with great weather. Its nice and warm here but pretty cloudy so no good for sun bathing.
Had a busy couple of days with work and really enjoyed working with the company ...hoping they book some more soon as they are a pleasure to train. Went up to Blackpool for the night on Thurs for a gin fest with my friend up there. We had a lovely evening and the weather was really warm so like walking round abroad on your holidays
Its amazing how much better Blackpool seems when the weather is good.
Got some really good news work wise yesterday the pitch I worked on a couple of weeks ago I have ended up winning which I'm so pleased about and I'll be honest a little bit surprised as I know I was up against some serious players. They are such a lovely business and it will be another piece I will enjoy which is always a bonus.
Nothing much different on the plan today, Asda are delivering any time, I have my age UK call and then some tidying. I have to prep for a course on Tuesday but I think Ill do that tomorrow and keep today for a chill.
Tru I hope you do go for another dog I bet it will be just what Scampi needs
Camelot wow yoga at 89  Im only in my 50s and my joints are creaking at the thought
Have a lovely day all and kick some sun up if you dont want it please :A0 -
Hi everyone,
Laura and Brian are coming up this morning to see Steve. She's off to Mexico this week for work so she wants to see him before she goes. They are going to a wedding reception tonight sowe'll be able to look after Ziggypup.
We're also going to see Chris and Crystal and Steve and he will play golf. Steve says it feels peculiar that they both want to see him but I think it's natural they want to reassure themselves.
We spent yesterday afternoon in Cambridge, chilling in the air conditioned shops. We bought a few storage baskets for the camper van but that was all.
Still thinking about Noah, I was friends with NPM on Facebook until she deleted her account a few years ago and am aware that she fought so hard for him to get the provision he needed and the best life she was able, my heart goes out to her.0 -
Nelski, well done you. You could have a little bit of my sunshine if I could be a few degrees cooler.0
-
Morning all.
My day will start with a shopping trip and then a visit to DM. I’ve got a couple of books to read which will occupy me later.
I hope everyone is doing fine or getting better and wish you all a happy Saturday.0 -
Nelski did you use our new direct train service?! And yes, sunshine makes the place look much nicer

Am off for a haircut in a bit, then down to Nelski's stamping ground for tapas & a gin festival later...inbetween I will be playing with my new iron (I know how to live! :rotfl:)
