Hi guys,
I am dual national and part of my problem is my other nationallity has a very long title which is not my name but has to be at beggining of my name so people in the UK( officals including banks) recognise me by my title and this is getting very hard .
without divulging my name here, let's say name is Deroon Dabi Anti
Anti is surname, Deroon is the title and Dabi is really my name
I am known by the name dabi
country I am born in won't change the name and it is extremly hard, can I change my UK name to Dabi Anti simply?
When I have two passports with two different names( well not entirly just missing the title, what happens?
is it simply a case of getting a deed poll and send it to banks and hm passport?

Is this really any different people from the great many people who are known by their middle name ?
Just tell them "your preferred name is Dabi"0 -

So effectively calling you 'Deroon' is like calling you Mister. That sounds like simple ignorance of your language and custom. I don't think you need a deed poll. I'd just write to the various companies and explain in simple terms.
I have a slightly similar situation in that I don't use my married name. It's not such an issue now as cheques die out but I have a note on my account at the banks saying to accept cheques in my married name. I just went into a branch and told them but putting it in writing is probably best.0 -

I don't think you can do that now. One of my current accounts won't accept chqs written to my second name surname in full even though they know I have only ever used my second name.
Another current account, I have a card with second name surname & can use it to pay in chqs through a machine but can't pay that chq in over the counter because they won't accept a chq unless in first name surname format.
It becomes interesting when I have an appointment & they say "first name" & I totally blank them because I don't recognise it as me. The joys of parents who picked 2 names which only flow with the surname in one order. I mean who ever heard of Fitzgerald John Kennedy or Logie John Baird?0 -
I knew several people known by their 2nd forename (including an uncle) or even a truncated version of their surname. One person was even known by the shortened version of their 3rd forename! If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

My husband's cousin has been known by her middle name all her life and I recall a few years back her telling me she was starting to have issues with her bank because of it (I can't remember exact details to repeat).
Firstly I would ring the passport office, explain the situation and get some advice if there would be an issue with having 2 passports with slightly different naming. Depending on what they say, if you do decide to go down the changing your name on deed poll when booking a flight, you do need to make sure the tickets are in the same name as your passport states. I was told this by the (UK) passport office because there was a few years left to run on my passport when I married and I refused to pay for a new/updated one until it ran out, so despite changing my married name everywhere, I continued to book flights/ferrys etc in my old surname. I'm not familiar with how it works if you have dual nationality, so please excuse my ignorance but do you travel on one passport deciding in advance which to use, or do you have both on you all the time?0 -
Not sure
I am worried that if returning to home country and they see the passport as my visa to return to uk, they would say that is not the same name and not allowing me to board the plane
When I travel to home country i will have to use my british passport so will be confused as to what passport to use0 -

Then don't change your name. What does it matter if "officially" you are called your full name, it doesn't hurt you.0 -

You can be KNOWN by whatever name you like - but you can no longer get away with that for anything official. Apart from anything else you would fail security.0 -
I wouldn't try to change anything - just socially use whatever name you like and officially use what is on the documents. If people write cheques then ask them to specifically put it in the official name or first initial and surname.
Had a friend who had five rather long names and when his driving licence (old paper thingy) arrived, the last two of the names were on the second line - cue incredibly confused postman who that it was the house name.0 -
