Will mudflaps solve this problem?

Hi folks,
As you can see in the attached photo - https://ibb.co/dcbdiz - I have problems with chippings scratching the rear of my car, just in front of the back wheel. Concerned it may start to rust at some point so wondering if it's worth buying rear mudguards (keep hearing mixed reports). I've also seen some cars with a plastic covering on this area (not sure what to google to find it though), for protection.
Appreciate any advice.
Thanks.

Unless you've been driving it like a rally car I can't see standard road chippings doing that. Mudflaps will not help you there.0

Looks like it might have been re-sprayed at some time and the re-spray is coming off.
Mud flaps wont help there.0 -
haha, on second inspection you are probably right. This was a 2nd hand car I recently bought. Any thoughts how to avoid future problems? It's strange as it's the same on both sides.0

Nothing to be avoided, just get the areas resprayed properly.0
-
thanks. I was concerned it might start to rust soon. Do you think I should get it resprayed ASAP?0
-
I can see surface rust on it already. How old is the car?0

3 years old0

try front muds, and get some protection film for those areas also.0

ah protection film, so that's what it's called!0

That's definitely not stone chips. That's laziness and not-giving-a-toss on regular loading of something large and hard-edged. Might be seatbelt buckle, but I don't think so.
It's then just had a very quick blow-over, probably a single thin coat from a rattlecan.0
