Unable to switch energy suppliers

Options
I've just brought my a house and we have tried to switch to a new energy supplier which I was told to do on the day we moved in. However, after doing this I have now had a message saying the current suppliers (for the old owners) will not let us switch to our new suppliers.
Anyone know how I deal with this? Or what I do now?
Thanks

Have you registered with the current supplier? If so they should not be objecting. If not then do so!

When you move in you are on a legally binding 'deemed contract' with the company supplying your property.

You have to contact them and give them the meter readings when you moved in. When they accept those readings and you have got an account you can then switch supplier. You then only deal with the gaining supplier for the switch; but of course you have to settle your final bill with your current supplier.
