I missed this on my first reading of this thread. You are not getting an out-of-date engine. It's emissions rules that are changing, not engine technology. If - and it's incredibly unlikely - the manufacturer is changing the engine, you would be better off getting the car before WLTP compliance, because any changes that allow it to meet newer emissions [testing] standards are categorically not going to make it better to drive. Modern engines have been horribly strangled by each successive emissions directive, killing off many excellent engines and cars (Honda S2000 anyone?) simply because they can't be made to comply.0 -
The OP's issue is image over logic.
You're still getting EXACTLY THE SAME car you wanted and ordered, just registered 1 day earlier, and that gives the IMAGE of an older car, and the OP is self-conscious enough to think it matters.

Put yourself in the OPs shoes. They have saved and saved to buy the brand new car of their dreams, but instead of having that 6 months pleasure of driving round in the latest registration they are forced to drive round in a car that appears to be 6 months old on the day they get it.
Now in 12 months, that wont matter, but from September the 1st to February 28th it will, and all that time the op is not feeling as warm and tingly inside as he expected to, and worse, he could have saved a load of cash by buying a pre-reg 18 plate that is to all intents and purposes, an identical car.
If you want a car with the latest registration, then you want a car with the latest registration, not an "old" plate.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Sure. Like I said up there, it's a wrinkle of the UK registration system that happens - purely coincidentally - to be the same day as the cut-off for the change in emission regs.
It doesn't alter the fact that the ONLY difference between the car he thought he was getting and the car he is getting is two digits on the registration plate, and one day on a date on the V5C. It's the exact same car as if the paperwork was put through one day later.
Unlike a pre-reg, he is the first keeper on the V5C. He got to choose the precise spec, and the warranty is the full length.0 -

100% agree - IF they have saved and saved to buy this new car - if however they have just signed a loan agreement or PCP to get the newest reg for a few weeks then simply cancel it all and start again in 6 months time where they can get a newer reg.0 -
