stick it to the neighbours by rolling up with a 69 plate, then you turn up and park some ancient 18 plater, they are are going to laugh.

If you didn't care about the 69 plate

    Or 68 plate even. ;)

No 69 plates this year. It will be 68 plate in September. It is still 2018 I think.

No other reason to get a car on September 1st than to get the new plate! Tell them you want an 68 Plate so its a new order at no cost to yourself or a greatly reduced 18 plate!

Is it a Complete new engine that needs to change or is it something else. I can understand what the OP is saying I would be angry to.
  • Iam Talking to the dealer today so I think the only solution is to cancel the order. And redo another order. As I was told it would be a 68 plate

Does your order paperwork explicitly state that the car will be registered on a 69 plate? If so, then there's a contractual issue there.
Every time I've bought a brand new car (twice, actually) I have picked the number from a pre-allocated list that the dealer had on hand. If you did that and chose AA68GBM then technically they have changed the contract without your agreement and you have a case to argue. You could threaten to reject it but would have to start again with a new order and wait. Or do as facade says and see if they will do a cheap cherished plate as compensation and you might be lucky and get B111GBM instead.

When m'wife bought her new car last year - the dealer didn't have a pre-allocated list but said that if the only combinations available were undesirable like AA17BOG ; they had got cherished plates for customers in the past. Which I thought was a great offer as I'd already offered to do that for her if necessary.
I need to think of something new here...

Who cares about a 68 plate? If status matters that much, it'll be irrelevant by the end of September.

Why would you be angry? It's still a new car. Is it some kind of keeping up with the Joneses thing? No one, other than you or OP, is going to notice or care about your own car's registration.

Most of the issue is that manufactures are having to fit petrol particulate filters to some cars to make them compliant, not a new engine. Some engines will no longer be offered for sale because it is not worthwhile making them compliant (low-volume engines, or those that are used in cars that are due to be superseded: the BMW M3, for instance, is being killed off entirely). There is nothing to be angry about, except your inability to choose the correct "to/too" and OP's insistence on the nonsensical "would of". It's almost as if people have no clue what the words "of" and "have" mean...

    You are, of course, correct.

I can never remember whether the "50+" winter plates are before or after the "straight" summer ones. I need to think back to "they started at 51, and 01 was never issued" to remember they're after. The confusion sets in with it being 2019-model cars that start production after the 2018 summer shut-down.
