Official MoneySavingExpert insert Tue 9 Apr:

After trialling this offer in North London and West Midlands stores last year, Lidl is now offering £1.50 fruit and veg boxes in all of its stores.

Every day, a limited number of boxes will be available from the time stores open, until midday - when any unsold boxes will be donated to local good causes.

You won't know exactly what you'll get, as Lidl say the 'Too Good to Waste' boxes are made up on the day with whatever fruit and veg are about to go to waste in the store at the time. For full information about this deal, take a look at our Lidl deals page.

Lidl also says it will "introduce additional price reductions on its fresh items that do contain 'best before' and 'use by' dates - on top of the 30% reduction already placed" - see our Reductions in places you might not expect blog to read more about Lidl's 30% off stickers.

Big thanks to treboeth for the spot! [purplesignup][/purplesignup]

Different scheme to other supermarkets, where "wonky" veg is put together by suppliers and shipped to the store . This is veg that is going off , being selected and boxed by staff at store .

    Freshness Specialist :rotfl:

In other words the junior employee tasked with removing all the limp, bruised, on the point of rotting fruit and veg from the shelves.

I find most 'junior employees' in any supermarket, really don't know what vegetables are let alone picking out what is bad!

P.s. Going by the picture, when did bananas become a vegetable? :D

Do you get to see what's inside or opt for a veggie only version? I love the sound of these and would easily be able to use all the vegetables but going on the helpful example above, there's no way I'd get through that much fruit in a week- assuming it lasted that long.

The box is wrapped in cling film so yes you do.

I decided not to have a box with broccoli in as that did look on the verge of being past its best.
