Hello, I just wanted to post my experience and say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to the OP on how to sort this. I bought an Invisalign voucher for £749, and had the consultation. It would've required an extra payment of £1300 to get the desired effect so I decided to cancel it. I had the same reply as OP offering credit for £749!!

So I sent this in reply:

Thank you for coming back to me, and for your offer of a full refund of £749 in Groupon credits for my unfulfilled service.

However, a refund in Groupon credits is unacceptable to me in this instance, as you have breached the distance contract between us by not fulfilling the order to me. I therefore request that you please provide my refund of £749 back to me in cash, refunded to the payment method used for the transaction (VISA debit card).

I do not require, nor am able to benefit from a ‘similar deal’ as my teeth are not suitable for treatment, as confirmed in my consultation. At every stage of the process I have been assured I am entitled to a full cash refund if I am ineligible for treatment.

Please note I have taken advice from trading standards on this issue, who advise me I am due a cash refund within 14 days due to your breach of contract.

I look forward to hearing confirmation back from you on this matter.

    Regards,

    __

Thank you so much again!! Really didn't need this hassle right now. Got my money back in a few hours.

I have purchased a stay at a hotel via Groupon, the hotel has canceled my stay due to coronavirus and stated I would need to contact groupon for a refund. As I paid using my debit/credit card. Groupon has said they will not refund my bank only refund me using credits.

    Right, all sorted.

Sent this yesterday based on what Trading Standards helpline told me to say, and received the response below, along with a refund to my card today! Hope it helps others....

    Dear Sagar or colleague,

Thank you for coming back to me, and for your kind offer of a refund of £126 in Groupon credits for my undelivered goods.

However, a partial refund in Groupon credits is unacceptable to me in this instance, as you have breached the distance contract between us by not completely fulfilling the order to me. I therefore demand that you please provide my partial refund of £126 back to me in cash, refunded to the payment method used for the transaction (VISA debit card)

Please note I have taken advice from trading standards on this issue, who advise me I am due a cash refund within 14 days due to your breach of contract.

I look forward to hearing confirmation back from you on this matter.

    Kind regards,

    Stuart

As per all the other posts on the same subject.. You bought a voucher from groupon. Not a hotel stay. As such a credit is correct. \or you let the hotel reschedule.

I chased an outstanding order with groupon for item I purchased before the lockdown and have been told "the item was not shipped due to vendor shortage" and they were happy to refund in groupon credits.... I used my debit card to make payment and can't afford to accept credit from groupon when I need to go and find a new item to replace my order (over £350)... what are my rights to get my money back?

Depends as per multiple similar posts .
You bought a Groupon voucher and rightfully they refund to vouchers ,As opposed to paying the vendor directly .

As JJ Egan says, it depends.  If you bought credit which was then used to buy the item, they are perfectly correct to refund you in credit. If you paid directly for the item then you can get a refund to your debit card.

I suspect it was the former.  It seems to be Groupon's way of working. One of the perils of chasing that "bargain" I'm afraid, instead of just buying the item with real money elsewhere (or even directly from the vendor instead of through Groupon).
  • Hi all,
I raised a case on resolver, not only have I had an undesired outcome in terms of refund, I also have experienced the worst level of customer service in my life!

I ordered a set, microwave, kettle, toaster, toaster came it was only a 2 slice not 4 slice, they say they can’t send me a 4 slice, offered a refund if I return the products but I want the items that I ordered. I also am trying to get compensation for the extremely rude and abysmal service I received.

Customer service offered a third and a third, I have this on email they also offered £20 groupon bucks then dropped it down to £15 in later communication and now say they will only send me 1/3 of the refund once they have the two slice toaster back. If they have made an offer are they allowed to take it back once made?

I cannot escalate my case any further using resolver but I really feel that the customer services representative needs to be reported along with my case, any one any ideas where I can go from here?

    Thank you in advance :)

CS rep write a complaint to head office .
    Compensation   almost certainly not .
Change an offer yes if you have not accepted .
Where you can go is via the Small Claims Court  but as per thousands of posts here  these sort of offers are tied up with extreme terms and conditions .
