Help with housing

Hi
Im stuck and dont know what to do i want to rent a house/flat privately but cant afford one so would need to apply for housing benefit but my area (N London) has universal credit so would i need to apply for that instead?
Also i get PIP and ESA would i be entitled to HB or UC?

Would i need to find a house first and then apply for it or can i do it before? Im single and over 35 so would only need a 1 bedroom, i dont want to get a house/flat first and then apply for it and they reject my application for it and im stuck paying full rent as i cant afford it..

Thank you in advance for any help.

It depends whether your area is a full or live service area.

Is your ESA contribution based, income based or a mixture of the two?
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

You need to check exactly what it is you're claiming.

You also didn't answer the above question, is your area a live or a full service area? This makes a difference. Please check the link i provided and put your post code in and tell us exactly what it says.

When i put my postcode in it says “There is no date found.” But when i enter a different postcode in the same area it says its been live since 20 june.

I dont go to any appotments or any work programs due to my disability.

That just states that you're most likely in the Support Group.

If you're not sure then you need to ring ESA and ask them which do you claim Contribution based or contribution based with an Income related top up, or just Income related.

I have no idea what that means. Hopefully someone else will know.

Well what about the other parts?
Would i need to get a flat first and pay for the rent at first myself or can i apply for the HB and then get a flat?

You will need to find a flat first before being able to claim anything and you'll also need a tenancy agreement.
