I am partial to a nice curry and chips every now and then, but I find that as I get even more ancient, I don't get on with what nowadays seems to pass for a "medium" curry. Or balti for that matter. They're too hot for me.
So, can anyone suggest a jar of curry/balti sauce I can bung on top of my pan of cooked chicken pieces that's really quite mild? I don't have sophisticated tastes at all, and to be honest I don't know a jalfrezi from a jacuzzi, so it doesn't even have to be a proper curry sauce - just a milder version of what the takeaways (used to?) do by way of "curry and chips".
Oh, it needs to be available in Morrisons, Tesco or Lidl

Mayflower curry powder is very mild. You just mix a couple of spoons of the powder with some water and heat it up and pour over your chips or whatever.
Alternatively look for a korma sauce which is also very mild.
I always make my own and then can make it however hot or mild I need to depending on who's eating it.

I think Mayflower is more like Chinese curry than Indian
AFAIK, there are 2 varieties - medium and extra (or very) hot.
The extra hot will blow your head off.
We mix it 3 parts medium, 1 part extra hot.
It makes a reasonable Chinese curry with raw beef, mushrooms, peas and onions cooked in a wok.0 -
I think I've seen it in B&M and/or Home Bargains0

"Goldfish" Chinese curry sauce paste is very like the takeaway curry sauce sold with chips and is sold in Tesco in the world foods aisle. A tub lasts a long time. If you don't want that much the Schwartz "Curry for chips" is good and currently on offer @ 2 for £1 in Tesco. Their Korma sachet (also on offer is ok too)0

Neither of which we have in this neck of the woods, unfortunately!
So now I'm on the hunt for something like this Mayflower stuff which you can get from Morrisons, Tesco or Lidl, and meanwhile I'll give a jar of korma sauce a goWe're all doomed0 -
Or try chinese curry sauce. If you google it, Tesco should come up - worth a try for 80p.
Haven't tried it for many years, but chips and curry sauce used to be Sunday night post-pub staple.
[edit] Ha - many similar thoughts faster than mine - must be curry and chips overdose setting in at last...0 -
