There is a relationship page. Whether it's excellent is a decision one has to make, but it's the last place I'd go for relationship advice.
Give Relate a call and get yourself on the waiting list. The more flexible you can with times and locations, the quicker you'll get in. You can go alone - what we need is time to talk and a non-judgemental ear, just to listen, not to react or offer opinion. Relate (or any other relationship counselling) is truly excellent for that. The only thing you can get on a board is opinion, simply because of the format.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Gotcha. Thanks. I’ll look at that now! I do like the auto correct of it all tho.
I was joking about the relationship page, the fact you’d helped me get my (financial) head straight almost straight away has helped me immensely and joking you’d help my (mental) head if there was a page for that too!
Next question which is just as big a can of worms, but I guess I can ask here as it’s related.
If I get the mortgage and manage to buy her out etc, the spare room.
I live in a university and commuter area where property is much sought after.
Would I have to tell my mortgage company I’m renting it?
The housing association I guess would also need telling?
I’d do it all properly so I’d also guess the tax man would need telling as it would be a second income?
It is only a small box room (starter house) but it’s enough for a single bed, dressing table / drawer unit and a wardrobe.
But it’s ideal for a student or someone who commutes to London and lives elsewhere at weekends.
Thoughts and advice on that please?0 -
so you have experience of living in a relationship. However, the owner/lodger relationship is very different. You are the master, it is your house and you could make it intolerable for them if you set silly rules or have opposing standards. Do you have any experience of house sharing outside a shared bed relationship?Would I have to tell my mortgage company I!!!8217;m renting it? Read your mortgage terms and conditions, that is what they are for, they tell you what you can and cannot do. many will have no issue with a lodger
The housing association I guess would also need telling? read your T&C, the answer is probably yes
I!!!8217;d do it all properly so I!!!8217;d also guess the tax man would need telling as it would be a second income? you are allowed a total of £7,500 INCOME tax free between 6 April - 5th April (ie. the tax year). Note income includes rent + anything else you charge, share of bills, household kitty, milk, etc. If you stay below that level so £625 pcm, you do not have to tell HMRC at all. Take more than that, and you do have to tell them
It is only a small box room (starter house) but it!!!8217;s enough for a single bed, dressing table / drawer unit and a wardrobe.

Taking an undergraduate as a lodger if you are a working person is a very different dynamic to taking in a working Mon - Fri lodger.0 -
Good call.
Nope. Went from my parents to living with her for 17 years so no house share as such (bar the last 3 months or so!! !!!55357;!!!56866 !!!55357;!!!56866; )
I!!!8217;m pretty laid back I guess but as you say, a student might not work.
Visit with the mortgage people tomorrow so hopefully I!!!8217;ll gave a better idea of what!!!8217;s happening.
Thanks to everyone for your input on everything.
It!!!8217;s given me a bit more of a heads up and helped clear my head a bit.0
