Now, does anyone know who I (the husband) needs to sleep with at the council to get the council tax slashed? :D
I tried this many years ago ....

i did a double take when I read this! :rotfl:

...after finding out that some houses in our street were paying Band A whilst others (myself included) were paying Band B. They came up with a load of claptrap about the valuation of the houses when council tax was brought in and how it was worked out. Seems very unfair to me as the houses are all semi detached with the same amount of bedrooms and pretty much same layout but they wouldnt budge.

Not much moneymaking going on here except for my tips.
    £12.50 to add.

Nice to see my mortgage drop to under the £45,000 mark with the overpayments I have been making and changed in signature.

We have a bit of a dilemma at the moment. We have a rental property which we would eventually like to live in if our second child ever leaves home. Our excellent tennant who has been there for four years is having to leave due to finding a job in different town. We have had some good but also some awful tennants over the years. Not sure we can be doing with the hassle of advertising and all the hassle that goes with it anymore.

The girl who is in at the moment knows someone who might be interested and can vouch for her being reliable. She has a viewing tomorrow so fingers crossed. If not........we are thinking about selling. We wont make a fortune on it but if as I would do, we used the money to pay more off our mortgage, we could be mortgage free in about 2 years. My OH is a live for today kind though and I know he will want to spend the money on either a new car, a camper van, nice hols , etc etc. How do we compromise? I cant seem to get through to him what being mortgage free would mean to our finances.

He got offered the job at airport but the money is atrocious! Also would have to pay £250 for uniform!! He said thanks but no thanks. :rotfl:

    Anyway sorry for long post.

Well done everyone on any money made and keep going for second half of month. :T

Your OH sounds like mine and like my Dad. My mum was only commenting today about how he doesn’t seem to worry about money and he only has a card for one of their joint accounts so she can keep an eye on what he is spending

Is it usual in these cash-strapped days for employees to have to pay for their uniform?. No wonder your DH turned the job down. I hope he finds something really good very soon:beer:

I can see your dilemma about your rental property. I doubt property prices will rise in the foreseeable future so whether it's worth keeping it in the hope it will appreciate eventually is an unknown. Being mortgage free by selling it and paying a big chunk off your mortgage sounds a tempting prospect. If the friend of your current tenant turns out to be OK though and by keeping the house doesn't mean you're losing money I think I might be tempted to keep it for a bit longer but you don't want to end up selling it further down the line for a lot less than you might get by selling it now. What a predicament to find yourselves in. Good Luck:beer:

WHy not just go anyway ? Make life a little uncomfortable for the young one

Been there - done that !

"Just let my best friend move in for a month or so while she gets organised "

4 years later, having wrecked the place this "Best friend" got herself rehoused because the property was "uninabitable" leaving 15 months of unpaid rent behind her ! (which of course I had to pay the mortgage on !)

If you're going to rent it again, I strongly suggest you have an agent do the "vetting" part, then take over the day to day running from them ...... Grrrr! - Around £30,000 that good deed cost me !

[Edit - It was a GOOD house I'd just bought - 5 bedrooms - I was going to move in and let the rest as an HMO (before the Regs got silly ! )

I wouldn't be here now if I hadn't let that "hugely respectable" cow move in ! ]

In some ways, though it seems a bit of a nightmare, your house dilemma is a privileged one to have kantankarusmare.
Perhaps you could put 10% aside, if you sell it, for 'fun stuff'

While I'm fully behind you that getting the mortgage paid off would be amazing, life is very short and I know that has made me try to have some fun and achieve some 'bucket list' moments as well as get debt paid off as soon as possible.

Anyway, just my 2 pence worth, please ignore if it's an unwanted opinion. :)

Another £15 from my son, bringing my total for the month to £226.81/£310
  • Thanks for all the responses regarding my rental dilemma.

I know we are lucky to be in the position we are in and it gives us choices.

Procastinator..........that is my biggest fear having always managed the property ourselves. We watch too many programmes on the telly about nightmare tennants who leave people in horrendous debt.

I sometimes wonder why they leave it so long with no rent coming in before they take action. I know we couldnt afford to go months and months with no rent to pay the mortgage.

This seems like a good compromise

i am inclined to agree with you on this. After recent events I feel the need to make sure I do more fun things while I can but still taking the future in to account. It is a balancing act isn’t it?

I still have a claim outstanding from March 2017! I chased it a while back and it finally moved from pending to confirmed but still says it could be 8 weeks before it becomes payable

:eek: I won't make any plans for the money then!! :rotfl:

15p cashback today from Topcashback, so £58.09 altogether so far - had a lull for a few days so the 15p feeels better than it really is! :D

Bit of a slow week for me.

Received £5 from MySurvey, and £1.15 from Curious Cat so the running total is now £16.03/£60

Not sure I'll hit my target this month but I've been getting a lot of surveys done and a lot of receipts snapped so I know good things will happen somewhere down the line :)
  • Just to make it clear.......I , nor has my husband, ever slept with anyone from the council to try and reduce our council tax band. ;):rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

OH showed young girl around our rental but she didnt seem interested. Neither was I when told the response why she is leaving her current rental.

Apparently her landlord is evicting her as neighbours have complained that she makes too much noise on a night time.

Maybe the gods up above are sending us a message. We have decided that when tenant moves out. we will go in, give it a good clean and freshen up the decor and get it on the market.

    £14.20 tips to add.

My phone has been constantly telling me it is full so today I deleted snapchat which I rarely use and reinstalled some of the swagbucks apps and also shopmium which I have never useed before.

Hopeless Case......I used your referral code. :D Mine is on the referral board if anyone wants to give it a go too. We can learn together!! ;)
