Is this the best that you could do?
Apart from the childish, partisan way the article is written, there is no definition of what a cheap Windows laptop may be. Certainly not the specification of the laptop to which I have linked, with ample CPU, 8 Gb of RAM and an SSD drive.
Nine years later, my laptop is faster than it was when I first purchased it.
It's the Chromebook that is often cheap and nasty. So perhaps they are comparing a cheap and nasty Chromebook with a cheap and nasty Windows laptop.
This is not the case here.0 -
GB = gigabytes, used to specify memory & storage size.
Gb = gigabits, used to specify network throughput.
1 byte = 8 bits, so 1 GB = 8 Gb.
gb = gram bits, which is meaningless.0 -
I use both a Windows 10 laptop and and a Chromebook and would say that of the 2 you could do without a Chromebook but you couldn't do without a Windows laptop.
Going back to your original question, you may like to take a look at this Acer Spin which covers your original Swift spec and more.
It has a better processor (although a slightly old version) a 128 gb ssd, a flip touch screen and a backlit keyboard. Reviews are pretty good all round.

It's just that you get quite aggressive in tone when trying to make a point, or thats how you and a couple of other forum members come across, and cannot accept others opinions and real-world experiences with different platforms.
I have made a suggestion which would be the acer chromebook 14- again I agree that refurb makes a lot of sense, and these can be had for just under £200
I'm not surprised at EveryWhere TBH. I'll not even give my opinion on Windows vs ChromeOS, but you've been repeatedly asked for links, which he has provided and you have not. From your position of authority giving tehcnical advice, you should be fit to provide the OP, and those you're arguing with, with a link.
And to save more arguments, let's be sure we know when we're referring to SSD and eMMC storage - the latter is a glorified soldered SD card (AFAIK).0 -
Google acer chromebook 14 refurbished. How hard is it to do this? And the op didnt ask for a link to a particular product. Who are you to decide that I need to provide links to make a point? They asked for advice. But as per usual they;ve probably scarpered because they;ve wondered why their thread has just descended into the usual pointless diatribe of argumentative comments0

And you clearly haven't read all the threads on here saying 'I'm about to order x from site y, are they legit' and 'I've ordered x from site y and it hasn't turned up, have I been scammed?'.
I think it's perfectly reasonable, if you're claiming (and I don't doubt it, BTW) that they're available, that you should post a link to it, from a reputable retailer - this part can be difficult for non tech savvy. I saw a post on a different forum the other day asking if 'ebuyer' are legit. Of course they are, I've used them for years, but that poster didn't know.
I'm trying to help the poster, and also other readers of the forum, that's all. I have no authority over you to demand links from you. I just think it would be useful if you would, as EveryWhere has to forward his argument.0 -

If the op would find it useful and asks, I can post a link. I was just offering some pointers around chromebooks which always goes down like a lead balloon on here...funnily enough with people who’ve never owned one.0 -

This all looks quite 'aggressive' to me.
It was you who claimed you could find the ACER Chromebook for under £200. Of course if it is not 'as new' with at a least 12 month warranty, we are not comparing like with like.
Contrary to your assertion, I have no dog in the fight. I am simply putting forward an argument so that the OP can get the most for her money.
It is you who came up with baseless statements such as me 'hating Chromebooks' and you who seem to be descending further into an unpleasant ways of communication.
We are all(and this includes you) doing our best to help the OP. Having a different point of view does not change that.
So stop taking it so personally and reacting so badly.
We all support each other here.0 -

It is also not that cheap for what it is.0
