Thanks for the replies, everyone. Amazingly the guy agreed it was defective and gave me a refund! I'll be taking it to a proper Samsung shop tomorrow. Result!0

No, they were fine about it - said the bad repair had only been to the screen, not the inner workings, so they've put a genuine one on, run a diagnostic and all is well!0
