Which SUV to get on PCP
I've just started looking for an SUV (wife is expecting so we would prefer an SUV) and I must say it's a little overwhelming trying to wrap my head around these PCP deals as well as which car to actually go for. We used to live in Brighton city centre and had no need for a car so I have literally no knowledge of market trends and norms over the past few years.
We want something fairly new, 2017 reg oldest, and from what I've seen PCP would work well for us. We earn over 150k per year between the two of us however I'm self employed and so this gives me the potential to claim back some VAT as benefit in kind.
We are both 31, and I must admit, I'm a shallow git, I want something nice like BMW, Mercedes, Audi. Something with a prestigious 'badge'. We both work hard, so I don't have any issue with spending £500 a month between 2 of us on a car we'll really love. My view is that life is too short, either one of could be hit by a bus tomorrow, we may as well enjoy the fruits of our labour.
I had been looking at a BMW X3, but have heard mixed reviews. If anyone could please offer some advice on the following I'd be really grateful
- Which SUV to go for
- What to look out for in terms of warranty and running costs
- PCP deals. How to find the best deal and negotiate with dealers
I am new to this forum, your help would be apreciated
Thanks

Unless you're getting new stay away from PCP as it's not really designed for the used car market, in fact it will probably work out cheaper getting anew car on PCP than the equivalent nearly new version.
If your joint income is that much I don't see why you'd need to go down that route anyway, you'd probably better off looking at contract hire instead or get a cheap loan and buy a car outright.
I'm starting off under the assumption this isn't another DM thread, we'll wait and see how it pans out

Best SUV
Personally, from that list, it would be the Jaguar F-Pace, especially as you are after a "Badge". It also doesn't have the negative perceptions associated with BMW and Audi.0 -
Maybe not quite yet but it wont be long. Funnily enough I was going to add to the recent Audi thread that the cars and their drivers I've seen in recent times driving like idiots without any regard for anyone else on the road have been the ones in the Jag F-Pace.RichardD1970 wrote: »Best SUV

Thanks for the replies. The F-Pace does look great and the badge carries a certain prestige to it but I don't think it's as well made as German rivals.
Why is contract hire so advantageous compared to PCP?0 -

Why is contract hire so advantageous compared to PCP?
What makes you think it's inferior in quality to the German cars?
Never do PCP on used cars, it's rare for there to be a good deal on them.
Do you intend to keep the car at the end of the term by paying the balloon payment? If not then contract hire will generally be cheaper.0 -
As said above don't PCP on a used car. I think the best looking SUV just now (in my view) is the Mercedes GLA or even better the GLC.
I would also be looking at a lease, just estimate your mileage as accurately as possible.0 -
Top spec Karoq or Kodiaq depending on how big an SUV you want. German bits and bobs but not the badge you crave. Give one a test drive.
I earn a similar salary to that you of you and your wife and I drive an Octavia 245 vRS. No regrets at all, fully loaded with kit and great to drive. I did consider an SUV but no need as my Octavia's boot is plenty big enough and it fits in my garage better."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -
The lease deals look good, however, as I'm self employed it's actually more efficient for me to have a car in my own name and claim back relief on the mileage.
I'm look at a 2017 MSport high spec X3 right now. It has 20k miles already but in mint condition. It's £370 a month for 36 months, £1995 deposit with dealer contributing £800. At the end of those 3 years there's an optional lump sum payment which I obviously won't make.
It seems a good deal on the face of it. 6.9% APR0 -
get a loan not pcp for a used car.0

You can get personal loans not secured on the car for around 2.8% if you have a decent credit rating.0
