Upgrading a Nationwide FlexBasic Account

I know it has been discussed before but not for quite some time, has anyone had any luck getting their Nationwide FlexBasic account upgraded to a normal FlexAccount? Was it done automatically or did you have to ask?

The terms and conditions state that they will review your account and if you've managed it well and don't appear to be in financial difficulty they will upgrade it. See conditions 64 to 68:

Both methods, as far I know.

Log into the online bank and go to the apply for a new current account bit and then apply for the new account menu.

It has the option to upgrade an existing account instead.

If you select the upgrade option directly, it doesn't have a option for FlexBasic.

Iv'e had basic accounts with both coop (cashminder) and santander and neither had an online option to upgrade them i had to apply for a separate current account, my wife couldn't upgrade her nationwide flexbasic account either, it seems that the banks keep the basic accounts separate from their standard accounts and are deemed to be a stand alone account, i have found both accounts to be very usable though with both having online banking and able to set up direct debits and standing orders.

I had one of these accounts for 18 months. I was told I would be upgraded after 12 months, nothing. I did a message via online banking and was told they couldnt but "reguarly review".

After 18 months I decided to switch and use it as a donor account. I bagged the HSBC £200 switch deal.

Now, a couple of months since switching... every time |I log into Nationwide they bombard me with Flex Direct Account offers......lol

I don't think they ever upgrade.

I upgraded to FlexDirect after a few months, so to catch the last repeat 5% offer before the T&Cs changed.

That said, I was perfectly happy with FlexBasic - good app, contactless card and £500 ATM limit. Better than some of the standard accounts elsewhere.

I've discussed this with Nationwide via Twitter and it seems their criteria does change from time to time.

At present their stance is as follows:

I had a flex-basic and upgraded to the flex account successfully I think on their app. Soon after that I was offered a £150 overdraft which I accepted.

I’ve messaged them so many times and asked in branch but it’s just computer says no. There’s no human input - they don’t look at your account at all.

If you are certain that you should be eligible for a full-function current account, could you not apply somewhere else?
