Old Style Daily Saturday 28th July 2018

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

I managed to catch up on some sleep yesterday, and slept most of the morning. I very rarely sleep during the day so I must have needed it.

We had much needed rain yesterday and massive hailstones, it felt so much cooler almost immediately although it is just as muggy in the house as it has been at night for the past few days right now.

I’m looking forward to a few cooler fresher days thought before it heats up again, and will get some deep cleaning done, and generally catch up on some jobs around the house.

I need to paint the door of the outhouse at some point soon. It houses a second freezer and a tumble dryer and I want to make sure that it is well sealed before the winter. In the past I have had problems with it swelling and getting stuck so now I go for prevention rather than cure. I'll see what the weather is doing over the weekend and may do that today or tomorrow

Gers I’m glad that your mum picked up again quickly
.
Dumpling congratulations on the weight loss, I would love to lose 11lb in a week.

Csarina I’m so sorry to hear about your OH, I hope that he makes a speedy recovery.

Dp1 it sounds like you had a lovely day out in Newcastle for your daughter’s birthday. I hope that your eldest daughter’s interview by Skype went well.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.

Deleted_User I am thinking of you and your DH and hoping that he recovers quickly and gets whatever treatment he needs to keep him well.

I am sitting here waiting for the heavy rain that is forecast in the next hour or so. It is very muggy here now and last night was too cloudy to see the moon. I was outside staring at the sky last night and walking around trying to find a good viewpoint but the cloud cover was too heavy to see the moon at all.

I don't have anything special planned for today. OH usually does the shopping on Saturdays but he did a small shop yesterday as we were running out if milk and had eaten all the salad. He plans to do the remainder tomorrow instead.

All that jaw pain last week has concentrated itself into pain around one tooth and the gum is hot and painful so I think it may be an abcess and will need to see the dentist. I had some pain at the time of my checkup earlier this month but he couldn't see anything wrong and routine x rays revealed nothing, was possibly just brewing. Unfortunately the surgery I have been going to for 34 years went entirely private years ago and I know this is going to cost an arm and a leg. Can't be helped though.

Hoping that everyone has agood day or as good as possible, especially those who are unwell or worried.

csarina So sorry to read about your DH, I hope he has a speedy recovery xx

ancientofdays Why do these things happen at the weekend?! Do you have a Dental Access Centre near you? Ours is open on saturday mornings, if treatment is needed urgently they will see you without a referral.

Mr tru is at work today, when he gets home he's going to quickly get changed then get in his mate's car and drive down to Cornwall, he won't be back til monday :T :j Course I have to pay for this – he's booked time off work so he'll be home for the rest of week, but I suppose you can't have everything :D

My alone time starts now (I'm not counting the 30 minutes he'll be here at teatime) and I don't know what to do with myself :D Tempted to get stuck in to my Beach Hut room – it's full of stuff that needs sorting but it's not mine so I shouldn't be deciding what to do with it. On the other hand, I was promised that this wouldn't happen so feel I have every right to sling it all in the bin, lol. OR do I have some proper me-time – soak my feet, eat chocolate, read and binge-watch Gilmour Girls?

I'll tell you what I won't be doing this morning – going for a walk. It's raining - heavy, cool, will-really-soak-the-garden rain and I'm soooooo pleased!

Good morning chums,oh I wish it was raining here ,last night a pathetic drizzle about half past seven, then it stopped after 10 minute and its never really got going again.

It was very cloudy, but not the good downpour we were promised. My eldest DD, whose house is three miles away, her garden got a good soak but I think it just skirted the edge of where I live I looked out this morning and my chrysanths will still need some water this morning as they are looking very sad and droopy.

Another uncomfortable night with the fan on and still felt got,the sun has just come out so probably another warm day.

Hope everyone has a good day, I have some reading I want to catch up on, so it will be a quite pottering day today

Cheers chums

It has started raining! Just very light rain but perhaps it will carry on. We live close to a 'beauty spot' that has been sadly abused in recent months and the water from the pool has been receding steadily, the surrounding area is tinder-dry, yet gangs have been lighting barbecues and fires. A good soaking will reduce the risk because if this goes up, there is a risk to nearby premises.

If anyone wants to do a rain dance, I will join in though it will be in my pyjamas, not a pretty sight.

ETA it lasted approximately 4 minutes and now has dried up.

Good morning everyone :hello:
I woke up to beautiful rain this morning, the dogs were less than impressed though when I chucked them out for their morning wee :D. I can't tell you how much cooler it feels (sorry Jackie) and I hope it will continue for a little while longer.

csarina, I really hope your DH had a comfortable night and is well on the mend now. Hugs to you xxx
Gers, ditto for your lovely mum xxx
AOD, sorry to hear about your abscess, hope it can be sorted out quickly as there is nothing more miserable than dental pain, hugs to you too xxx
Holly, I'm glad to hear that you got some well needed sleep xxx
tru, enjoy your time on your own, I have to say binge watching netflix sounds more appealing than turfing stuff out..just saying :rotfl:.

Steve is in charge of the kitchen and I think we are having salmon fillets today with new potatoes and veg. I hope he gets a long lie in today as he is very tired from work. I can't remember who asked if Steve was going to quit work to help me and Lee but we had a long chat about it and for now he wants to carry on working. I was disappointed but I don't blame him as he gets very worried about claiming benefits especially as our area has just rolled out Universal Credit. He has another 7 years or so until retirement so we are just going to play it by ear for now.

Well I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
• Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. We actually got some rain in the early hours, around 1.00 ish, but no spectacular thunder and lightening displays to accompany it. It doesn't feel any cooler yet indoors but I live in hope and the windows are all open in readiness. More rain forecast for today and the sky certainly looks promising.

I have been MIA for a few days. I have felt less than sociable with "stuff" (which I would rather not go into) happening and numerous long winded phone calls to both make and take from various health care pro's. Life has been rather grim, not helped by the tortuous heat draining the life out of me.

I have just done a quick catch up on posts I missed whilst I was AWOL and so sorry to read about MR CSARINA. It goes without saying he is in the best place and I hope he makes a speedy recovery. GERS it sounds as if your DM is on the road to recovery at last so good news there. Mr TA goes for CT scans Monday (Leeds) requested urgently as the tumour markers on his last blood tests were up. Yet more worry to face waiting for the results. Tuesday we have the OT coming for the assessment. I don't like the idea of anyone coming poking around but if help can be provided to ease life a bit so be it. I really must make the effort to clean up a bit more thoroughly first as all I have been doing is a lick and a promise through the heatwave.

Ooooh great excitement it looks to be raining (more of a drizzle really) and forecast on and off all day. Might get the ironing basket emptied this afternoon if the house cools down a bit. This morning I must do a proper shop. Stores of dairy, fruit and salad stuff much needed. I have just been picking up odd bits to keep us going as I have been to-ing and fro-ing to the surgery, pharmacy etc during the last day or two.

Have a good day folks and I hope you are all lucky to have the rain falling on you! ((HUGS)) as always for all in need/want of them. Take care all xx

Morning everyone from a rain soaked Glasgow. According to friends it's the same where I live.

Last night the rain started in the late evening with lightning and then the crack of thunder round about 11pm. The smell from the rain hitting parched ground was really strong.

Csarina - thinking about you and your OH and hope the news is good.

My DM had a better day yesterday, ate three small meals and walked a short distance again, the first since Monday.

Today I'll do a clear out of the fridge and a small shop, DN tends to eat only a portion of food so a lot is being wasted. Most of the waste is fishy stuff which I don't eat, there's half a breaded haddock with chips there which needs chucked!

I'm thinking about going back to swimming whilst here as I'm not being too active. For that to happen I need to get home to collect my kit, might do that tomorrow, perhaps.

I hope things are going OK for folks, happy Saturday to all.

Edit - hugs to TA

Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and I are enjoying cuppas, I've showered, dressed and just finished brekkie as I'm working this morning.

Dinner last night was salmon en croute, new potatoes and peas for the menfolk. I had caponata with some cod. DH moaned about his then proceeded to eat the whole plateful. We've had words, I'm generally very fed up at the moment.

Guy is coming this morning to put up the last cupboard - hopefully won't take too long as it's the only thing that needs doing, then I can sort the kitchen out properly.

We had very heavy downpours that started teatime last night on and off, then everyone had gone to bed and I was sat watching some tv and the power went off. I went to bed but couldn't sleep, got up to use the bathroom and noticed the lights were on on my shower unit, so then checked the fuse box and one of trip switches had been tripped, and we had lights but no sockets would work, DH slept through all of this me trying to sort it on my own. He then did wake and we systemically worked through trying every socket individually in the house to find the last one's - kitchen for DW and WM - DW seems to be ok but every time you plug the WM in it trips the switch, so we unplugged it and now have restored power to the sockets - so this now needs sorting out.

Keep safe and well x

Hi all :)

Well it had to end at some point I guess and the rain came last night. Hope it boogers off again soon I miss waking up to mediterranean skies every morning and enjoying my tea on the patio. Still hot in the house though it remains shorts weather for a while.

Jackiemum I was watching the weather this morning and you seem to be the only corner missing it. Bovver boots on and its getting kicked down the M1 specially for you

No real plans today other than my age uk call and a tidy. Yesterday I went to Costco to get the on offer loo roll for mum. Was quite proud of myself I totally stuck to my list which is really unusual in Costco. Came out with said loo rolls, a big pot of anchovies (so much nicer than the tinned ones and a requirement for all my caesar salads I am getting through) and some ziploc bags. Now that s impressive I call it the 100 quid shop as I just cant get away spending less usually :o

TA good to hear from you and sending hugs down the line it sounds like you need some.
AOD ouch ...hope the pain gives you a break till you can get to the dentist.

Hope everyone enjoys the rain and gets some stuff done :)
