This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
I am not coping with the heat very well now. I walked half way to the pharmacy yesterday and gave up and came home. It was only 10.00am, so not the hottest part of the day but I started to feel really unwell. I’m drinking a lot of water so don’t think I was dehydrated. I phoned the pharmacy and they are going to deliver the medication today for me.
One of the benefits of not sleeping is being able to open all of the doors and windows in the early hours of the morning when it is cool to cool the house down. I’m finding that if I then close all of the curtains and blinds the temperature in the house stays reasonable through out the day.
So today I’m not planning on doing much at all. The housework can wait. Dinner will be salad with chicken and I’ve got some new potatoes I cooked yesterday so will turn them into a potato salad. I have a craving for something different for dessert, so think I will make myself a summer treat of some sort of sundae.
Poppy I hope that you are feeling a bit better today, at least the MRI scan is out of the way. Take care x
Dumpling I’m sorry to hear that you are losing your CMHT support worker, it sounds like you really appreciated the help that she has given you.
I Love Comps I’m pleased that you had a better visit with your mum this week.
Camelot I hope that you enjoyed your lunch yesterday, and that you managed to get some more of your fence painted without getting too hot.
Judi glad you got away ok, I bet the air conditioning unit is the one thing that you are glad did come with you I could do with one right now! Enjoy the rest of your time in Devon.
Csarina I feel your pain. The fan is the one thing that I couldn’t do without right now.
Gers I hope that your mum had a better day yesterday and that you managed to get a bit of time to yourself.
Nelski I hope that the car got sorted without too much trouble.
TA thinking of you, I hope that you are ok.
Have a good Friday everyone.0 -
Morning everyone
hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
We have rain - I could hear thunder in the distance last night for ages, but it didn't seem to get closer/further away. I was then woken by the sound of a heavy downpour in the early hours, it seems to have rained steadily for quite a while as it is damp underfoot, can still hear thunder in the distance also, rain seems to have stopped at the mo. Hoping it's cleared the air a bit because it was so muggy.
DH and DS1 up and gone to work stupid early, DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly as he will come with me to do the food shopping then go to the gym.
Dinner last night was roast chicken portions, mash, carrots, broc, cauli in cheese sauce and gravy, doughnuts for dessert. Tonight I'm not sure, but I will organise when I do the shopping this morning.
Plumber was here promptly yesterday morning as I knew he would be, took him a while but he's done what was needed and I now have a working kitchen, with DW and WM, so did 2 loads of washing yesterday still have quite a bit more to go today, hoping I can get it line dried. I did get some of the other jobs done too, so not too bad. I'll be able to sort out the cupboard under the sink and get the stuff back in there that needs to go so that will tidy up another room.
I'm working tomorrow morning so not a straight run of days off this week, but it will remain like that as I'm working 3 weeks in a row, helping someone else out and then swapped 1 as it was my turn but we were away on holiday, I don't mind doing them. Workman is coming tomorrow morning to fix the last cupboard in place in the kitchen hoping it won't take too long.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.
We had an amber warning of thunderstorms yesterday but no storm materialised and now it is forecast for Sunday, watch this space, I think the weatherman is deluded.
Poppy I hope you feel better today.
Gers thinking of you and your mum and TA thinking of you and Mr TA.
Dumpling, I was sorry to read about your CMhT lady.
I have no real plans, yesterday was a bit of a washout without the water element of wash as I slept badly but slept for longer today so I'll just pootle about. The Friday Tidy might happen but if it does, it will be a minor version.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possibleI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all
Up a bit earlier today as I am going into work for 7, we have a large buffet to get ready for 11 so the boss and I are going in early to get it out of the way, hopefully I can leave by three this afternoon if I can get away I plan to come home for a cool shower and then lay down for an hour or so.
I think we will have a takeaway tonight or go down the pub I put the oven on last night and the heat was unbearable so might treat ourselves tonight.
Need to put a wash on when I get in from work the rest can wait till tomorrow.
We were working out last night and we think its been over two months since we had any rain  I honestly think we will be on a standpipe soon !!
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
We are forecast rain so I have my fingers crossed. It is a bit grey outside but still feels very warm. Steve has gone to work but will be home early as it is his half day today. I have organised the shopping to come this morning so will get the kids up to help put it away once it arrives.
Well, drum roll please.....I weighed myself this morning and have lost 11 lb. I felt pretty emotional to be honest when I saw the numbers flash up. All week long I have kept the thought of making myself a priority and every time I felt tempted to fall, I pictured you all cheering me on so I was so delighted to see it had paid off. I know most of this weeks loss is water weight and I am ok with that, from now on it should be fat I am losing. So I just wanted to say Thank You from the bottom of my heart. :heartsmil:heartsmil:heartsmil
Today I am going to cook a chicken in my Instant Pot and make a paella and a chicken and leek pie and then make some sort of soup from the stock. I will certainly earn my Old Style credentials today I think :rotfl:. I also need to wash the dogs bedding as it whiffs which will help the living room to smell a bit fresher.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Well done dumpling, go girl!
Keep safe and well x

Happy Birthday for yesterday Speky :bdaycake: Hope you had a great day
We have two smoke alarms but they didn't go off, I tested them after I read your post and they're both fine. They're in the hall and on the landing, not near the windows at the back of the house so maybe the smoke wasn't thick enough to set them off by the time it reached them? Mr tru manages to set them off every time he uses the frying pan though
Yesterday the fire service recommended not lighting bonfires in Gloucester, and have banned them in the Forest of Dean. They should be banned everywhere at the moment, the whole country is dry and it's far too dangerous.
bellabella Scampi has a hate-hate relationship with one dog, they are never going to see eye to eye, lol.
Hollyharvey I hope you feel better today, this heat is too much isn't it? Have you measured your water? I started using a jug, only because it's too cold to drink straight out of the tap (sensitive teeth) so I leave it to get to room temp. Doesn't matter at the moment, the water is coming out of the tap lukewarm, lol. But I was surprised at how little I was drinking, although it felt like a lot. I make sure I drink at least two jugfuls a day, no matter what the weather.
Well done dumpling that's fab :T
It was quite nice here til mid-morning yesterday, then it was cloudy, hot and sticky. I spent the afternoon wearing just a floaty shirt, I had a dressing gown on standby in case anyone came to the door, thankfully they didn'tAnnoying Neighbour only knocked on our door the other night to hint about us complaining to Fire Neighbour because she'd already rung her son to ask him to ring FN to tell him to put it out! He said no so she came here. FN was cutting his hedge yesterday, he raked up the cuttings and left them in a neat pile in the corner.
Jabba the Hut isn't going well because I haven't started him yet, lol. I don't understand the pattern so I'm going to have to go through it line by line and rewrite it in tru-speak. I'll attempt that today. The washing is on and I'll dust downstairs when I've finished my coffee. Not sure what else I'm doing today, it's mr tru's day off so anything could happen, lol.

Morning All
First of all, big congratulations to you dumpling! 11lb is an amazing achievement. Glad you can 'see' us all stood with our arms crossed watching what you eat!
It's sunny again this morning, yesterday was really hot especially when I was stood picking peas at the allotment. No fence painting was done but I did paint 2 of the garden chairs, clean the downstairs windows and cut the front hedge. Unfortunately when I had nearly finished next door's I cut through the hedge trimmer cable. Hoping Mr next door can fix it.
There's a load of washing to be done when I've had a shower, it should dry outside by lunchtime - we have rain forecast from about 3pm.
I'm off to a work colleague's wedding reception this evening which should be good fun, present all wrapped up just need to remember to take it!
Hope your DM has a good day Gers.
Are you ok TA?
Enjoy your holiday Judi.
Have a happy Friday, take care. XX0 -
Hi all:)
Beautiful day here again perfect blue sky and hot hot hot already :j Sadly according to the weather forecast its cooling down and looks like rain by lunchtime today.
Car all sorted ...took them 3 hours in the end which I wish I had known as I would have a wander into town but they are not good at estimating time so every time I asked it was "it wont be long now...!"
Anyway very very happy trip home with ice cold air blasting out. How did we cope without a/c.
No real work plans today although I am going to prep some flip charts and do a timings list for my courses next week wont take too long and involves colouring in which I loveso then house stuff ....baskets have had a soaking and bins are out (jet set life again) Will have a tidy up then i'm out for an afternoon with my friend and her daughter possibly a picnic but looking at the forecast more like a pub.
Food yesterday was a gammon steak with some jersey pots and minted peas...in truth it was meant to be some halloumi wrapped in bacon with a pea salad from my latest food magazine but the bacon I thought I had got out of the freezer turned out to be 2 gammon steaks ...labelling fail again so best of a bad job. Wont need much later but theres a bit of the above left so i can have a mini meal if need be.
Anyway waffling on so enjoy your Fridays all0 -
Morning everyone.
Dumpling - :T:j:T:j that's spectacular!
My day yesterday was awful, DM just got so much worse so I called out the doc again. Third time in a week. The blood tests showed depleted potassium levels so he's prescribed supplements, stopped her digoxin and halved the diuretic dose. We'll see.
I'm hoping that today will be calmer all round.
Happy Friday to all.0
