Not really - the reason we have stickies is to cover repetitive subjects efficiently. Indulging posters who can't be bothered isn't really helping them best.

However the dash cam sticky is over 4 years old. If you want to know about the latest tech it probably isn't the best place to start. Not sure why it's a closed thread. Not really - the reason we have stickies is to cover repetitive subjects efficiently. Indulging posters who can't be bothered isn't really helping them best.

Maybe because of inactivity while too many people on here indulge posters on their own threads instead of contributing their latest findings to the sticky.
Look how successful the Radio Codes sticky has been over the same period - A concerted effort to get people to post there has meant the best/fastest help for them and we now only rarely see people posting threads on the main board. Which is a joy when you consider how many were being posted before.0 -
I got in touch with the installer & he suggested the fact i was running a 128GB card & then suggested a firmware update.I use an old android phone with an app for dash cam, and suffered the same issue, some video blocks were missing, changed the sd card and it's fine and has been for a while,
I updated the firmware & have since tried 64GB cards & the 32GB card that came supplied and i'm having the same issue regards recording scattered clip sizes.
The whole not recording a whole journey thing is so inconsistent that it's just too difficult to test on other cards.
Yes, really. Not really - the reason we have stickies is to cover repetitive subjects efficiently. Indulging posters who can't be bothered isn't really helping them best.
.
And replying to someones thread when you can't be bothered to post anything helpful is 'helping them best' is it? No it's not is the answer to that one.
2 problems with these kind of 'stickies'...
1) Who sits there reading through 100+ pages on an 8 year old thread looking to see if they may find an answer to their question?
You might. Others might. Many wont. A thread on dash cams isn't killing anyone is it. Unless we're filling page 1 of the forum constantly with dash cam questions - but then i'm sure we'd get our own subforum and since we don't then the 'problem' can't be that bad, can it?!
2) Someone asks a question on such a sticky & it just gets lost. People skip over it. Then the person has to bump and ask again - wouldn't have that issue in their own harmless thread.
And if things like this bother you then i'll say a little prayer for you tonight for the next time you step outside. Good luck.0 -

All anyone can do is offer suggestions to try, a large card is of no benefit as the device like a computer can only read a certain amount of sections, the sections that are marked for keeps appear to remain with a flag not to be written over, I would imagine any digital media device is not 100%0 -
If only MSE had a sticky that covered all dashcam-related issues!
The dashcam sticky hasn't been updated for over four years so hardly surprising few people would consider it to be a reliable source of info for anyone buying a dashcam in 2018.Every generation blames the one before...

I agree. I wasn't saying what i said in a finger pointing kind of way. The installer is a top bloke who's quite helpful so i took what he said as a 'i don't really know but here's all i can think of that might be worth a try' kind of reply. All anyone can do is offer suggestions to try, a large card is of no benefit as the device like a computer can only read a certain amount of sections, the sections that are marked for keeps appear to remain with a flag not to be written over, I would imagine any digital media device is not 100%
I don't really think i agree that the large card is of no benefit. It depends in my view.
My wife for example has front & rear cams (the 698 model). She does short journeys & in a week her card is just about full.
If i was to format every single day then yeah i guess a big drive isn't really much good but as i say i format weekly. Plus then there's the odd occasion i'll drive to the in laws which is a 3 to a 3.5 hour drive there, so the same back & then a bit of driving while we're there.
I read the manual to find the largest capacity that the device is supposed to support which came back as 128GB so thought well why not have top capacity.
I can live with all the minor niggles i listed but the not recording an entire journey issue could prove to be costly one day.0 -

The way the devices work, they can only address a certain portion of memory (often but not limited to 32gb).
Inputting a larger card, the device simply won't be able to read the higher address's.0 -
I'm afraid you're going to have to dumb it down for me further. The way the devices work, they can only address a certain portion of memory (often but not limited to 32gb).

Taking my wife's card for example on her dual cam 698 (& even my 128GB before it started acting up) I've used a 128GB card and it's filled the whole thing & i can access all the files perfectly fine when plugged in to a card reader, all in the same way as i can when using a 64GB card or a 32GB card.
So what are you saying?
Not trying to be funny here, just trying to understand because it's obviously gone way over my head :rotfl:0
