Benefit Fraud

  • Good old MSE. On another thread, the OP's daughter got instant dismissal (quite rightly) from her job for stealing 20p from a tips pot showing she was dishonest and a thief. On this thread, the OP discovers their neighbour could (potentially) be claiming hundreds of pounds in benefits which they are not entitled to showing (if this was the case) that they were dishonest and a thief. So they have done the right thing and reported it where it will be looked at and proved or disproved. So why are so many peeps not only making excuses for the neighbour but having a go at the OP? Shame on you that are doing so, dishonest actions are unacceptable. The matter has been passed on and will be looked into. Quite rightly so. I do wonder about the morality of some of the posters on this board. Whether OP's suspicions were right or wrong, they have absolutely done the right thing.

I'm not saying she did the wrong thing I'm saying she seems to be enjoying it a bit to much like if the persons benefits get suspended she wants to know the exact moment so that she can have a little celebration.

I agree, if fraud is going on, it should be reported. But the OP seems to want to know how/what/if will happen so she can glory in it. She's reported what she thinks is happening. Now its up to the DWP/HMRC. Her part in this is complete.

I wonder however, if the bf will realise this happened following a drunken conversation with his neighbour. I suspect the neighbours will be going through a list of people who could have reported them.

However, it will take quite a while for HMRC to investigate the situation before they go to the neighbours and ask questions.

I don't think it will take them long to figure out who it was that reported them.

If they were drunk in the pub and bragging about it, many people will have heard them so anybody might have reported it. Maybe more than one actually did do the right thing and did report it.

DWP will decide whether to investigate or not. Chances are you won't find out anything more unless at some point she's prosecuted and ends up in the local paper.
    And that is only right.
The OP has reported her neighbour as he/she believes they are committing benefit fraud.
That, as far as the OP is concerned, should be the end of it.

It doesn't take a lot of intuition to work out that something doesn't add up, if you're neighbour is in a low paid job but seems to be living the high life something isnt right. What the boyfriend said in conversion explains a lot. I'm not looking for rewards, it just !!!!es me off that people in this country work extremely hard whilst others take the !!!!, so yes if she is guilty I hope they throw the book at her
Perhaps they've won some money on the lottery.

neither do we condone people who may not be in full possession of the facts making such reports.
On this occasion, I disagree, the OP has been told of a crime and has properly reported it. It's for the authorities to investigate and take the matter further, if appropriate.

Just in case the agencies don't go ahead with a prosecution it might be better to let the neighbour know you have reported them and will do so again if they don't admit their fiddling to said agencies. Naughty people!

The question is what on earth are you going to do about your jealousy? its a horrible trait to have and clearly something you are suffering from. I can assure you that the only feeling you get from revenge is emptiness. How will you cope with emptiness and jealousy and the fact that you are now viewed by everyone you have told as untrustworthy snitch All based on the drunken ramblings of a neighbours boyfriend over a garden fence rather than any facts? I was accused anonymously of benefit fraud by my younger brother as I had brought a second hand old Mercedes and he had nothing, I wasn't committing fraud at all and after my interview with a "compliance" officer nothing more was said, that was 6 years ago and I havent spoken to my brother since and it has caused a huge family rift that is unrepairable, and yes despite him using the anonymous benefit fraud reporting hotline I still found out it was him within a few weeks. I do hope you have the opportunity to move because if you were my neighbour and I wasnt committing fraud I would go out of my way to make your life hell

How did you “find out” it was him as the Dwp wouldn’t have told you

    Seriously?
That's a sure-fire way to start a neighbour dispute that could backfire badly on the OP
