I am parking in the night at my living address but in the morning to afternoon, to my relative (close to my work place station), where it parks for whole day.
So the insurance needs to be at your home address, with commuting cover.

    3. And for MOT: The MOT address needs to be changed as well?
The MOT doesn't have any address.
  • Hi Adrian and others,

I really do not have word to describe how much thankful I am at the moment, as you guys have sorted out my worries and panicking.

    1. This way I can have my car permit at my relative address, and license and insurance on my living address.

    2. Road tax, I do not need to any thing explicitly, the time when I have to pay it, i will just call them and pay them as I believe the address will automatically reflect there.

    3. I understand, I will inform my relative for any PCN or ticketing issue if i get.

By the way, I only got one PCN during my whole 5 years of driving and no ticketing etc.

why are you working so hard to have your car registered to a different address? Why not just have everything at your home address? What if you got a NIP for speeding and for some reason your relative accidentally throws it away or recycles it? Come 5 months time you then get a summons for fail to furnish. Just keep it simple. And make sure that you have commuting on your insurance as someone above suggested.

Something smells funny about this, what reason do you have for not wanting the car registered at your address? is it in your name at your relatives house or in his name? is the insurance in your name or is it in his name and you are down as a named driver?

For leased cars, the registered keep and owner is typically the lease company. And the V5c will show the lease companys details. So no great difficulty with insurance where the registered keeper and address on the V5 and insured address is different.

You can make your own mind up and do what you want to to - but your insurers will ask who owns the car, where you live, who is the register keeper, some ask ( I remember mine did) is the car registered to you at your home address.

Answer anything, and I mean anything, incorrectly and it may give them an out in the event of a claim, I would be 100% honest and say the address on the V5C is different to my home address - if this is so you can get a parking permit at the other address so you can park there in the day thats fine, they may want to check to see if that attracts a higher premium.

While what you are saying is correct, that isn't the circumstances the OP is suggesting. He is deliberately registering it at a different address. Perhaps he thinks he will get out of having to insure for commuting this way. For the meagre savings involved, I don't think it's worth all the hassles that could arise from the subterfuge.

Also, he would still be commuting.

He would need insurance for commuting, but some authorities require the vehicle to be registered at the same address as their parking permit, which is what the OP wants to do.
As long as he can be contacted at that address, as far as the DVLA are concerned, it is not a problem.
