Very informative stuff.
For anyone genuinely interested in informing themselves there are some very knowledgable and thoughtful people like Jim Cornelius and David Henig writing on twitter and in blogs.
Alternatively you can read and give credence to the rubbish pumped out by the IEA and their lapdogs in the ERG.0 -
One of the vey best commentators out there is ( Professor) Chris Grey.Succinct, well written, clear minded
Britain is humiliating itself
Why?
Because of our failure to ackowledge reality
What is that reality?
The failure to ackowledge the binary choice between single market membership and non membership.
This was not a choice made in the referendum but in Government /Mrs May decisions subsequently
Spot on
It did not have to be this way

What I find most amusing is that you don’t know that a margin of error relates to a sample and not the population as a whole.
We know very accurately that 51.9% voted to leave on that day, but we can't be sure there'd be any leave majority if re-run the day or week after. Thus the only result you can draw from it is a pretty clear "dunno".0 -
Alas I do. Am I using an incorrct term here? I'm referring to the fact that so close to the boundary between yes and no it doesn't take much to skew from one to the other; a news story, unexpected bad weather, etc.
We know very accurately that 51.9% voted to leave on that day, but we can't be sure there'd be any leave majority if re-run the day or week after. Thus the only result you can draw from it is a pretty clear "dunno".
What gets forgotten is that there are potentially 16.1 million votes that have been ignored post referendum and are up for grabs.
Of the 51.9% ,how many voted for no deal and the consequences that arise
How many voted for a Norway type opion, which was promoted by many prominent leave figures? No one knows.
It was left ,correctly, for Parliament to decide
But any Parliament that allows no deal as at 29th March will be in clear deriliction of its duty to prioritise the welfare of UK citizens
Best bet is might be we forge some withdrawal agreement in a blind brexit and then continue to argue over the shape future trading relationship.
Is that what was voted for in 2016 ?0 -
May went to see Merkel with her Chequers suggestions, got a green light and then they got trashed by Macron, Juncker, Tusk and others. That seems to show that Merkel's power is gone and I expect her to be out of office soon.
It's all starting to unravel for Merkel now.

With forthcoming regional elections likely to favour AfD, I expect her to be gone in a few weeks.0 -
Isn't this about the 5th time since Brexit that it's about to unravel for Merkel and her demise is predicted? Will this one be any different?Indeed you are. Why don't you read exactly what the proposals are.
What I've read indicates the proposal is that 10% of shares/equity in a company over 250 employees goes into a fund which will pay a dividend of up to £500 to each holder, with any surplus going to a social fund.
It seems like a fairly clunky way of doing it but I don't see how that invalidates any of my statement. You're presumably the expert on this, so I defer to your corrections.0 -
Some more fake news, presumably:
Lots of companies are already stock piling goods ahead of March, predictions are that as many as 10% of UK businesses could be sunk by customs delays:

This seems like a very good summary of the fiasco.0
