Find out how long held licence
Hi Guys
I passed my test in what I can remember about 2004, I then about 2010 got a driving ban as I had drove my car home early the next night after having drinks the night before and being in my system still, this ban was for 24 months which I had to return my licence, then after the ban had ended I didn't reapply for my licence for a couple of years 2-3, I am checking on the back of my car where the car is and it says 15.07.04 which sound right but is it actually right as there was a good few years I didn't actually have my licence or does the years held still count?, the valid to is 15.07.55, the front says 4a, 06.06.2017 but this was because I moved address so had to change the address.
thanks for reading.

Sorry what?
The date on the back is when you passed your test.
I take your point that you didnt hold a valid licence for 5 years - if your wondering for insurance purposes then just answer the question they ask correctly, you passed 15.07.04 you have held a full licence for 9 years - if they want further clarification then you can explain that you were banned for 2 years and didnt reapply for another 3.0 -
The date on the back is actually when the license is issued. Your pass date isn't recorded on the license.
Not a big deal if you've been driving for years but it is important for a new driver.0 -

Column 10 appears to show the date the test was passed.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Mine states "valid from" which isn't necessarily the date of passing a driving test? It certainly isn't in my case.0

You were banned in 2010, but that's longer than 5yrs ago, so you don't need to declare it, unless they ask for drink-related in 10yrs, which some may still do.I am checking on the back of my car where the car is and it says 15.07.04 which sound rightthe valid to is 15.07.55the front says 4a, 06.06.2017 but this was because I moved address so had to change the address0 -
So when insurers ask how long you've held a licence, the answer is 14 years.
Doesn't matter.

Technically he hasn't held a licence for 14 years, not that it matters once you have driven for 5 or so years - but you know how insurers like it when their policyholders dont answer their questions correctly and want to make a claim.
They will ask have you ever been banned anyway.0 -

If using a comparison site read the t&cs as they make a lot of assumptions about a driver and they rely on you ticking the box saying you have read them.
So be careful incase the t&cs (same with any insurer) mention a ban or points.
If you do a verbal quote with an insurer and they dont ask the question and it isnt mentioned in the t&cs get the persons full name and make a note of the date and time you spoke with them in case of any issues coming to a head if you have to submit a claim.
If they ask about a ban for anything within a certain timeframe eg 5 years repeat it back to them before answering and as above get their details.
Read the policy carefully when you get it, as long as there isnt anything mentioned put the persons details on your papers so you have it all together just in case.
If it is mentioned and you clarified with them before taking the policy out and the t&cs /details/schedule doesnt tally with the call PHONE them straight away and try and get it sorted out.
You do not want an insurance co cancelling a policy on you as that has a massive impact on insuring with another company for several years. You would need a specialist broker as the mainstream insurance companies wont touch you / quote.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear it in 2026.0 -
My licence certainly states my pass date on the back with a valid to date of my 70th birthday.
Maybe if you passed your test back in the day where folk would sign forms to say they had a test when they didn't etc then you might not.0
