  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. Another bah night for me (what's new) caused by the heat and Mr TA having a sleepless night too. Yet again feel like a wet dishrag.

Had a good day out yesterday with DD and the girls. Mamma Mia 2 was absolutely wonderful but definitely needed my pack of tissues! I didn't get off to a good start either as I was already in tears watching the trailer of Christopher Robin which was on before the film even started! I wasn't alone, DD was sat beside me with tears rolling down her face too!

Anyway the film was thoroughly enjoyed by us all and we were all ready for a late lunch. Italian won the vote and I enjoyed a plate of dough balls followed by Pesto Polo which was delicious, apart from the strange addition of raw red onion which I kept having to fish out! Why was it even in there I wanted to ask!

Mr TA had coped ok when me and youngest DGD returned. She's a right little character and her company seemed to cheer him up. She is now beside me watching Scooby-Doo. Middle DGD will be getting dropped off shortly (DD working) but eldest is going on the train with her Godmother to the nearest Waterstones to spend some vouchers she got for her confirmation. Menu for today yet to be decided but I suspect Pizzas will feature somewhere!

Have a lovely day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. Take care all xx

Already the sun is blazing down here in north Kent and its very warm, 28c on the patio at the back of my house atm.

I have the curtains closed, and the windows open, but not a breath of air around looking at the local weather online I see we are due for it to be 31-34c for the next few days at least.

We won two bottles of plonk last night at quiz night so have enough for another share out in the stash. :):)
Pure luck with the questions though, and one of my team who also runs and does keep fit was brilliant at answering ten of the questions about various muscles in the body which we were given their proper names for in latin :) she also goes to a Latin class as a hobby, as she enjoys archeology and goes on digs :) Well done to our Christine :):)

Our team have such a wide range of interests ,one lady adores literature and is our Shakespeare/Dickens go-to person, and Brian is our sports and golf chap.

We do so enjoy it on a Tuesday night, and have an awful lot of laughs as well as our food chucked in for an all in one price.

Last nights nosh was a delicious jacket spud with cheese and beans which was just enough to fill us up.

DGS Ben still hasn't heard from his interview yet, but he is treating it as experience for interviews bless him. His G/F has gone off to her Granny and Granddads in France for a month, but he is still up in Norwich as he has some part-time care work he promised to do which will bring him in some cash.

Today I shall be at DDs with the three remaining boys ,but we shall not be going anywhere as its too darned hot

DGS Henry, bless him walks the dogs first thing in the morning before it really heats up as one of them is a Maltese terrier who is finding it hard in the heat at the moment, he is due for a coat trim next week, and will feel a lot better afterwards I expect, but he can't have it too short as he has very sensitive skin and he would burn.

DD has special stuff she rubs into his skin when the weather is as hot as it is ,suncream for a pooch :):) but it does help him a little. He will flop in front of the air con unit in the sitting room today I expect (as will I :))

Right the kettle is calling me for the first of my umpteen cuppas today, hope you all manage to keep cool and hydrated, luckily it won't last forever and soon it will be rainy and dull and grey and the summer will just be a memory, the is the UK after all :):)

    Cheers chums

    Morning all

Thanks for the thread Holly and hugs to all those in need.

Finally managed 6 hours sleep last night after two dreadful nights, one that included having to phone 999 for DD1.
Plans for today include housework before it gets too hot and trying to keep the boat cool.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone,

All the pots have now been watered and whilst I was doing that DOH took little dog around the field, we are so lucky here and don’t have to go on any concrete to get her out for a walk.
Not much planned for today, will do a little ironing in a while as the room I do it in faces the back of the house that doesn’t get the sun until late afternoon so stays relatively cool.
My DSIL had her op but my eldest niece rang to say she was very tearful and down, mainly due to a consequence of the latest surgery and didn’t want any visitors for a day or two :( My heart goes out to her and all I want to do is give her a hug but will obviously respect her wishes.

Take care Gers and best wishes to your DM
Absolutely with you on wasps AOD horrible things.

Have a good day folks x

    Good morning everyone,

Silver-oldie - Free coffee? Maybe I should try it then!
Cranky - Wowza, this is a good pretty good deal. I'll may have to cut her some slack then!

Yesterday I stayed late (again) in work and then went food shopping, didn't need much. Tried to get some life admin done in the house but didn't get far. Had an hour long phone call with The Girl From Work, as we don't really get the chance to chat in work. We've made plans for this Saturday. She's growing on me.

Really need to put a few hours in at my mums garden so I hope it stays dry tonight.

Aod - "did it fishfinger" hahahahaha!!
RedRuby - Where did you get the paddling pool? My mums on the lookout for a sturdy one.
Gers - Hope she improves soon.
Jackie - I think you lot need to go onto that Eggheads programme!
Hester - I hope all is ok with DD1

Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Frustration yesterday, I was trting to get through to the dentist for OH kept getting a message to say the number had been taken over by Yay.co or somesuch. Eventually I went over to my neighbour and used her phone got them to ring us back. Have had to phone this morning, waiting for a call back for an appointment.

Its a lot cooler this morning, although the forecast is for a very hot day, I have all the windows open to get the house cool before that happens.

If we have to go into town today I will go to Aldi whilst OH is at the dentist and then pick him up.

We got the water back ok yesterday, we used what was left in the containers on the garden, I am very bothered about one of the plants I put in, it was drooping badly.

The lilies I planted in a pot are coming up, two of them are above ground, they are the giant lilies, grow up to 6ft tall. I have tried to grow them before but not been successful, fingers crossed.

I have strained muscles in my back, extra painkillers given with strict instructions about taking them........mind you I did not do it much good last night lifting a container of water, but there was no way OH could do it, me with a bad back is bad enough, him with a bad back does not bear thinking about!! I have to loose about 3 stone in weight, so from the weekend its 3 meals a day, no biscuits or sweets and only 3 rounds of bread a day.........so only OH will get biscuits at supper time, mind you he could do with loosing some as well. he is out finishing off the preservative on the shed. The surgery in the next village was still without water, so running a restricted service.

No idea whats for supper, might do haddock with poached egg and a round of bread and butter. no dessert........

Speky, I've got some £14 off a £70 shop at Waitrose atm. I go on the website and look at the offers and make up a shopping list of the things I would normally buy and store. Unfortunately my freezer is full so I can't buy anything for that today.

DD is coming tonight, I've not seen her for a month so I'm looking forward to that and tomorrow DS has a dental appointment in the next town so he'll call in after that so I'll have both my babies to myself tomorrow, luxury. DH is off to Belfast for a couple of days for the induction with the company he's been working for since April!

Saying babies reminded me that DS was at a works event when a member of his staff said "Look, here's my baby" and his wife said "You can't call him that now he's 2". DS said "My mum still calls me her baby and I'm 30" (He's also 6'6).

I'll try to get everything done today before lunch because it will be another afternoon of trying to keep as cool as possible.

Thanks for your good wishes, DD1 is ok now, it's one of the joys of being a foster carer, it's rare but scary.

    Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off Holly

Silver-oldie I’m sorry that your mum was like that to you again.

In some ways I feel sorry for her, I think she is trying to get attention, mother always wants to be the centre of attention, but is going completely the wrong way about things. She just upsets people and no-one visits her.
The care home is very good, but she is just one of several residents, some needing a great deal of care. Mum is really just old. I suppose most of her independence and decision making has been taken so she does what she can to be noticed.

Gers Hope your Mum improves soon, take care of yourself

Today I plan to keep cool and do as little as possible

Hope you all have a good day
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.

    Morning lovely people,

The sun is restored to my part of the NW today after a grey day yesterday. The park was full of other dog walkers at 8.I talked to one of the council workers who try to keep the place rubbish free. Not seen him for ages but he has an interest in Ly1a as his son has a Mastiff too.He was down at our end of the park and had a load of cupboards in his truck that had been fly tipped in the car park overnight

I'm off to meet my cousins for lunch. We always meet at a fishery which has a really good cafe and ice cream parlour.I bet all the tables overlooking the reservoir are taken, its always busy but especially in school hols. We're going fairly early tho' as one of them has a hair appointment after. We've not had a get together for a couple of months so am looking forward to a good chinwag :D

Gave the shower a good clean after I'd finished this morning, before the sun gets on that side.Prawn & avocado salad for tea.

Gers sorry your mum had a bad day-hope she picks up soon.Hugs
Nelski,DHs van is waiting for a part for the air con,he's been waiting a couple of weeks now, apparently they can fit it on the 6thAug ,another 2 weeks!
Better go and do a few jobs & then get ready to go out.
Please feel free to help yourself to a hug if you need one & have a good day xx
