Old Style Daily Wednesday 25th July 2018

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning everyone

I did manage to get some more sleep yesterday. The lounge was much cooler than my bedroom and I did get another four hours on the sofa which was good.

In the end I stayed in all day yesterday. I had managed to cool the house down and then close all of the curtains and the blinds and it kept it fairly comfortable with the extra help from a fan.

Not a lot of housework got done though. I did manage to give the bathroom a good clean when it cooled down in the evening, and had a very quick vacuum through, but that was it.

Dinner was a nice and easy salad a grilled chicken portion and some new potatoes. I had some apple cake in the freezer so had a slice of that for dessert. Dinner tonight will probably be something similar to yesterday unless I fancy any of the HM ready meals in the freezer.

Silver-oldie I’m sorry that your mum was like that to you again.
TA at least the scan has been brought forward.
Nanywindow hopefully they have sorted out your broadband for you now. I get really frustrated when there are internet problems.
Redruby sorry to hear that it will be a bit longer until your DD exchanges contracts, I hope that it is just a minor problem that can be easily sorted.
Nelski it sounds like you had a good day with your mum. I do love a good afternoon tea. I hope that you enjoyed Mamma Mia and that you are not too croaky this morning.
Lainey I was sorry to hear that your DSIL had needed a further procedure, I hope that she is recovering now.
csarina I hope that your appointment with the doctor went well yesterday, and you have now got some help/advice for sorting out your back.

Have a good day everyone.

I'm on the dawn shift today :) had to close the windows at the back as some neighbours were outside being too loud on a "school night" :o so sm now paying the price of a warm stuffy house :( Still, if I go into work early, I can finish early and go & blitz a few weeds on the allotment :D

Nanny hope you broadband woes are soon sorted - DH has an office at home & often suffers with our speed being "managed", especially in school holidays when there is high demand.

Morning! Thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.

I was at a local residents and police meeting last night, to discuss some issues at a nearby beauty spot (virtually unusable due to antisocial behaviour and criminal sctivity) so home quite late and late to bed. I couldn't get to sleep but thought that perhaps this might enable me to have a later wake up time, did it fishfinger!

I got up to an unexpected and delicious baking smell. DS had been making biscuits, unfortunately the wasp community thought they smelt good too. I've killed and disposed of 11 but there could be more bodies hiding. My apologies to any with a no-kill wasp policy hut they are my worst thing. I am going to have to get the nest treated, though I think OH is not keen on paying for it. Well I know he isn't. I think he is not convinced that this is a good use of my pension.

Today I plan to carry on carpet cleaning and carry on with Yoda. I now have a complete Yoda with the exception of the arms, they won't take many minutes but I had to down tools yesterday. Then just his robes.

I have now had the paperwork - and returned it - for state pension and the same with my second occupational pension, I am already in receipt of the main part of it.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible

Morning All

Hope everyone's ok this morning and not too hot, it turned into a lovely sunny and warm day here yesterday, perfect for painting my new fence! I could barely stand yesterday as I had been out there all day after swimming a mile!

DD and I are off to an open air pool for a swim this morning, a bit of a drive but should be good fun.

The builders finished the roof at the back of the house, just a few bits and bobs to finish then to find a roughcaster! I've decided what colour slabs to get so hopefully we'll find a man who can for that too.

Washing all line dried yesterday, painting clothes hung on the pulley overnight, should be ready to wear again this afternoon. House not too bad but could do with moving a duster around!

Have a happy Wednesday, take care. XX

The wormery needs the same things put into it as a compost bin. That's easy, we've had a compost bin for years so I know what to put in it and how much to get a good mix of wet and dry stuff. Dog fur has never occurred to me though, I've informed Scampi that all his shedding has a good use, lol. Normal earthworms don't work, you need a certain type, these will probably already be in an established compost bin BUT 300-500 worms is ideal – I'm not digging through the compost to find all those! You also need a bedding brick (?) to start them off. I knew this would be more complicated than I first thought! But I've found the perfect spot in the garden for it – so far, so good :D

ancientofdays I'm about to join you in your space craft (see what I did there?!) – miss tru's friend is Star Wars mad and buys all sorts of things when he spots them. He bought a crochet kit at a car boot for £1, it has yarn for two characters and a pattern book for ten more. He didn't know anyone who could make them so miss tru told him I can crochet and volunteered me :D He would like Jabba the Hut. I can't follow most patterns, the way they're written don't make sense to me so this is going to be frustrating, lol.

Scampi's mate Milo will be here for a couple of hours this morning. They run like loons for a few minutes, wrestle for a while, slop water everywhere and tip the dishes over when they realise how thirsty they are, then run in and sit in front of you, hoping for a treat. Then repeat the whole thing a few times :D I'll put some washing on and do a quick tidy up before they arrive, when they leave I'll put the washing out and retrieve the upside down dishes from the garden. Not sure what I'm doing this afternoon but Scampi will be worn out so whatever I do, I can get on with it in peace :D

Tru, I'm glad someone is joining me on the Millennium Falcon. Once this one is done, I'll arrange for it to go to my friend. She's had Darth Vader and Princess Leia, this will complete the set, I'm hoping she doesn't ask for more as they are fiddly and to be honest, I have not really enjoyed making them. Especially as an awful lot of the making consisted of googling the characters and staring at the images long enough for inspiration to tell me what to do. They look good though. I can crochet technically, I know how to use my hooks but anything I try to make ends up as a lumpy placemat so I confine myself to making edgings when strictly necessary. I'm good with two sticks though, I do an awful lot of knitting and can adapt and design things. I'm trying to think of other skills but right now I can't identify any.

Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

I somehow managed to oversleep this morning, don't remember the last time I ever did that - think it's possibly a build up of so many night's not sleeping that well - good job DH came and woke me just before he left for work! I feel more refreshed this morning though.

Blue sky and sunny, hot already - it really didn't cool down over night at all, I had the back door open until after 10pm last night.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now gone too, DS2 eating his brekkie, he'll get up and catch a lift with me.

Dinner last night was slices of gammon, hot new potatoes, beans/veg, ice cream for dessert. Tonight I'm not sure as gas engineer is coming back tonight to reconnect gas hob, I'm going to stop off on the way to work to pick up some jacket potatoes, so if needed dinner will be those with something from the freezer.

Yesterday work was a bit manic, started really slowly then just went mad for a while - we got there eventually.

I'm doing the other job today, and there's no air-con in that part of the office so it's really hot and horrible, I'll see how I go - I was working in there on Monday afternoon and had a fan - as there's windows but they can't be opened it just does circulate the air but it does help a bit.

Plumbing company came back to me last night as promised and he will be here Thursday morning at 8.30am - to see what needs doing and if he hasn't got the right parts on the van he'll go and get them and get it made right and back to working - can't wait really missed having a working WM and DW especially the WM in this heat - I was going to go to the laundrette on Thursday if needed, I still might and they have huge capacity machines, so I could potentially get 2 x loads in 1 at the laundrette instead of at home, it would cost a bit but they are shorter programmes too - 30 minutes. I haven't done any proper washing since last Friday. I'll see how it goes, I have a list of "to do" chores for this week so need to get going with it all, we'll see how things work out.

Last working day for me today, I could have gone to training tomorrow but didn't commit due to workman possibly coming tomorrow, I can go to the next training which is in August I'll get booked in for that today. I'm working Saturday morning too.

Keep safe and well x

Hi all

Voice not too bad this morning although we all did have a good old sing. Its a lovely film but if you are going make sure you take some tissues ...I wont spoil it though Im sure lots will be going.

Heading off soon to sort some stuff out with the car. Back in March I had the air con re-gassed and it worked well for a while but is kaput again (not the weather to have no air con atm) Anyway my lovely Halfords man is worried there may be a leak so he's having a look this morning then if no leak will re gas FOC. Suspect there will be a leak though which could be horribly expensive. Once that is done Im heading to another garage to get my dash cam hard wired in. So by 10am I will be thoroughly skint but my car will be happy :D

Have a video conference this avvy about some work. I hate these as you feel you have to dress for work as everyone else is in an office but I go with news presenter rules I only need to be smart from the waist upwards so my shorts are staying on.

Hoping for a couple of hours in the sun today work permitting. Food wise I think Ill rummage for a burger in the freezer which I can cook on the desk top grill and have with some salad.

Right me and my purse are off to take the car out...have a good day all

Good morning all.

DM had a bad day yesterday, I called her GP who's organised the district nurse to call this morning to take bloods. The thought is that DM has digoxin build up. I'm really worried about her and miserable for myself.

So it's another day of reading and doing what I can for DM.

I hope everyone has a happy Wednesday.
