Old Style Daily Tuesday 24th July 2018

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

Much as it is nice to see the sunshine and have a summer for a change I am starting to feel drained by the heat now. I have never coped well with prolonged periods of high temperatures.

I can’t sleep because of the heat, so I have given up and got up. I’ve just made myself a cup of tea and am then going to try and get a couple of hours on the sofa. It is so much cooler in the sitting room than it is in my bedroom.

Yesterday I went into town and sat and had a coffee outside a pub in a well shaded area which was really nice. It was so cool there that I didn’t want to leave so I had a mineral water and then a friend sent me a text to say that she was in town so she came and joined me for lunch there. We then wandered through the shaded parts of the park and stopped for an ice cream before going back to my house.

I kept the curtains closed all day yesterday and I was surprised at how cool it felt indoors when I got back.

It is far too hot to do anything much today, so I plan on either staying in with a good book or finding a shaded part of the park to take a picnic lunch and a book.

Gers I’m pleased to hear that your mum is on the road to recovery. Please try to take care of yourself as well, it sounds like you are trying to do a lot. Looking after your DM, her house and travelling up and down to your home to make sure everything is ok there.

Judi I hope that you have got away on your trip to Devon.

I hope banana shopping wasn’t too bad Nelski.

Csarina I hope your water wasn’t off for too long. Hopefully you can get an appointment quickly to see the doctor about your back.

JackieO I feel exactly the same as you about the heat. I’m another one who had three showers yesterday trying to cool down.

Specky glad the date went well, she sounds very sensible as well.

RosyRed enjoy your new laptop. You will have get your DOH to eat his toast away from it :).

I’m glad that you have been able to get the same keyboard as the one you are replacing LameWolf. It was a waste of a glass of wine though :).

TA thinking of you and Mr TA and hoping that the GP has been able to help in some way.

    Have a god day everyone.

Morning! I am another in the too hot to sleep camp. I went to bed quite early as I keep waking and am starting to feel a bit drained if energy. I wonder if those of us who sleep badly in the heat will adapt just before it cools down, though I mostly don't seem to sleep much anyway.

I will be back here later to see how people's day went yesterday, meanwhile thank you for the thread Hollyharvey, your day yesterday sounds fun.

    Morning All

Thanks for the early start Holly, hope you've managed some sleep. I had a terrible night, no reason and certainly not the heat, it rained all day yesterday!

As I'm up early I'm going swimming to my normal pool, had an encounter with a pensioner yesterday at the local pool, I'll never go there again during the week. I was so angry at being told to watch out for old Mrs Soandso who needs to be near the side when I had actually moved out of her way. They think they own the place and pootle up and down in gaggles.

Glad to hear your DM is improving Gers, make sure you're looking after you too.

Builders back today to finish the back porch roof, still not heard when the roughcaster or slab chaps are due to come, hope it's soon.

Have a happy Tuesday, take care. XX

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Blue sky, sunshine and it's already hot.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 awake and he's going for a run whilst it's a bit cooler.

Dinner last night was burgers and sausages with chips - not the sort of food that's my fav but it all needed using up and I still don't have proper cooking facilities or a working kitchen, although gas engineer is coming tomorrow night to re-connect the gas, and I've got to get in touch with a plumber today. We haven't heard anything back from DH's mate so he may be on holiday. Needless to say that's now been passed to me to sort!

Hairdresser is coming tonight but it's my earlier finish, so I'll put the gammon joint in to cook as soon as I get home, then I'll serve hot new potatoes (cook in micro) and some salad with it. That will then be ready and quick to serve once she's finished.

Work wasn't too bad, although not manic a steady flow of customers and again lots of complex queries and unhappy customers.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning hello.gif

Oh Judi I know how you feel. The more posts of yours that I read, the more I wonder if we're actually the same person xx

Yes Cranky I have piriformis syndrome – thanks for the trainer recommendations, I will look them up today. It's quite funny when I say piriformis syndrome, people give me a blank stare. So I start explaining about this little muscle and the sciatic nerve, and I get more blank stares. So I just say 'sciatica' now :D I also have a slighty misaligned pelvis, caused by limping for so long that the surrounding muscles adjusted to a position that I was forcing them into. So I sometimes just say 'wonky hips', lol.

RosyRed That sounds painful :( I get annoyed sometimes, I see women swanning about (they're not swanning about at all, they're just walking, lol) wearing shoes that I want and I want to know why I can't just wear whatever I want and how dare they show off their nice things in front of me?! I have a shoe and people-who-don't-have-walking-problems jealousy issue :D

Gers Good to hear from you! I'm glad your mum's improving xx

On our walk yesterday I saw a human-shaped shadow about to come round the corner so I moved us over a bit from the path onto the grass, when the man came into view he had a dog with him. It was too late to ninja off to a safe distance and Scampi went stiff, I was expecting a tantrum so apologised in advance, lol, but he relaxed and went to meet the dog. We now have a new friend called Stella :D

It was very hot yesterday but the wind picked up mid-morning, after lunch I sat on the sofa with the windows wide open and my hair was being blown into my eyes, it was bliss :D

Mr tru came home with a wormery yesterday. He went to a customer's house, they'd not long moved in, the previous owners had left it behind and they asked him if he wanted it. I need to find a space for it in the garden then learn how to start it off – I assume you throw food scraps in then dig up some worms from the garden, put them in and leave them to it, but I bet it's not that simple! Other jobs today include carrying the delivered shopping from the front door to the kitchen then putting it away. And that's it :D

  • Morning folks and grrrr as I have just been thrown off the lappie and lost all the waffle I was spouting.

Potted version - GP visit went well, he thinks the problem is his cancer. Roll back 5 months which is what I suspected in the first place. Replaced his Oramorph, which wasn't helping at all, with pain relief patches and by last night he felt so much easier. Also prescribed some of the high cal shots to add to his already bizarre diet. Just hope he can tolerate them. Mr TA has his Oncology scans next Monday in Leeds, brought forward in view of the problems he is having. I am already living in fear of what we will be told when we go back for the results.

All being well (and if he is ok to leave) I am tripping off today with DD and the 3 DGDs. Going to the nearest Vue about 12 miles away to see Mamma Mia 2. Late morning showing and then lunch in one of the restaurants on the complex. Youngest DGD is then coming home with me for tea and sleepover as the others (and DD's lovely fella) are going to Bradford Alhambra to see Titanic the Musical and she doesn't want to see it. Free tickets courtesy of "Margot's" ballet teacher!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for all in need/want of them. GERS I was so pleased to hear your DM is progressing well, albeit slowly. I don't need telling how draining it is caring for a poorly loved one. Take care all xxx

    Morning All,

I can sleep in this heat, I went to bed later though, after watching my hubby feeding our visitors to our garden. We have hedghogs who visit late evening. It was quite amusing watching the cats looking at the hedgehogs.

I also sleep more when I am stressed out. Booked another valuation for moms house on Thursday. This firm would tie me in to a 12 contract, but they sound good. Whereas the other firms sound to desperate to get moms house on there books , as they keep ringing me up. It has been nearly 2 years since I have been looking after mom and the house, I will be glad of the rest. On the other moms not so good, I could not do anything right on my last visit - but it is her illness.

On a good note got the sofa and covers washed and dried.

    Have a good day x

Good morning chums and the fan is on already as its getting hotter by the minute :)
never thought I would have to put a fan on before 7.00.a.m. in the morning in the UK.

Mrs TA big <hugs> honey you have such a busy time coping with your poor OHs health and DGC as well Try to get some 'me' time even if its only half an hour where you do absolutely nothing and see and talk to no one Just lay down and try relaxation for a short time to recharge your batteries.
So hard when you are tired and worried and your mind is going at 100 mph.
Me moaning about the heat seems pale by comparison xxx

I am hoping that DD's back is a bit better today, and DGS Ben may have good news about his interview ,although I'm not holding out much hope as he was up against more experienced people, but the interview itself is experience for him.

Right the kettle is calling and I am in dire need of a cuppa

Have a good day chums and try to keep cool and hydrated

    Cheers
    JackieO xx

    Morning all

Another scorcher here :j I must say that I am loving this weather although its unbearably hot in the kitchen, I love being able to sit in the garden in the evenings.

Off to work today its starting to get busy now, but tomorrow will be the start of the very busy days as its bouncy castle day and I swear every family in a 50 mile radius comes along, it does make the day go quickly though.

Not sure about dinner tonight but there is plenty in, we have stuff to bbq and quiche and pasta so we wont stave.

I may have found a new cleaning lady I have to give her a ring today but she seems very keen, I am going to wait till dd and co have left and then ask her to do a deep clean and then once a fortnight after that. Talking of dd it wont be this Friday that they exchange as something has gone wrong so it will be a bit longer.

Right better get on have good days all xx

    Hi all :)

Everyones banana comments really made me smile yesterday and yes dumpling I did imagine you all stood by display giggling

The day went much better than expected tbh although I did have very low expectations. Shopping was as OK as shopping gets with her then we headed up to the hospital ...that went really well and we were in and out within half an hour (unheard of ...even got the car park free) All is well and a rather gorgeous (even mum swooned) senior reg signed me off for 10 months :j After this I took her up to a country club near to the hospital and treated us to an afternoon tea. Absolutely gorgeous and even the queen of negativity couldn't find fault to a point i even got some lovely pictures of us both. All in all a really nice day ...expensive but worth it to see her happy for once.

Part of the reason for our treat yesterday is that today would have been dads birthday. Still miss him loads. We were laughing that afternoon tea would have been thoroughly poo pooed unless they did a portion of chips with it...far too fancy pants :D

So work day today its still a bit grey at the moment here ...all you southerners wanting some respite ill kick this down for you... give me solid blue and sun any day it will be winter before we know.

Off to Mamma Mia tonight and dinner out with the gang so fully expect to be croaky tomorrow. TA hope you enjoy it. Gers you are one of life's heros...just be careful you don't do too much
