Touted offers at 1.4640--a couple of pips above today"s early Asian session high, are helping to keep a lid on cable, as it consolidates gains from an early Europe intra-day low of 1.4518. The pound has benefitted from April"s unexpectedly positive CBI retail sales balance. This came at +3, compared to the minus 40 forecast (<TGM42333>).
GBP/USD buy stops reportedly reside above 1.4650. Yesterday"s high was 1.4695. The pre-weekend peak was 1.4774 (Friday). 1.4815 was last week"s top (Apr 20).
April"s Conference Board US consumer confidence gauge will be unveiled at 14:00GMT, alongside the latest Case-Shiller US house price data. The confidence gauge is forecast to rise to 29.9, from 26.0 in March. The Case-Shiller index is expected to reveal that house prices in 20 US cities fell by an annualized 18.7% in February. A two-day FOMC meeting also begins today.
