Just popped into the PO and they are selling dollars at 1.36, felt cheated so will leave it one more day.

    Still hoping for my 1.50.

I'm looking to exchange about £1000 in to dollars for my trip. What cards don't charge for foreign currency exchange online?

    Cheers

I think you might be getting two things confused here.

If you are buying currency, that will count as a sterling transaction - IE if you buy £1000 of currency, they will charge £1000 sterling to your card. If it is a credit card, that will count as a cash advance and be subject to all the usual charges an interest rates of a cash advance.

If you are in the US, and you make a purchase (your shopping) on the card, that will be charged to your account in $ and then converted to £ at the VISA rate.

Currently the Post Office Credit card doesn't charge and Nationwide Credit and debit Cards don't charge for making a normal purchase abroad, but Nationwide are "passing on" a 1% VISA charge as from May. (Nationwide also don't charge for using a cash machine abroad with a DEBIT card, using a credit card to get cash abroad still counts as a cash advance)

If you are buying currency, then use a debit card. If you are wanting to use the card in America, then get one of the above. Hope this helps

Edit: You may also want to consider the FairFX pre-loaded credit card.

Glad to see the pound is still strong, I though that announcement might sink it totally :D
