Against the dollar, the pound erased earlier falls after UK data showed mortgage lending rose more than three times as fast as expected in December, along with a surprise increase in home loan approvals, the pound was steady at $1.43 after the solid UK data helped it erase earlier falls. Sterling continues to trade well above the 23-year low around $1.35 hit last week as many considered these falls were overdone.
Speaking on Thursday, Bank of England policymaker David Blanchflower described himself as "bullish" on the pound, which he said was undervalued in a speech on Thursday.0 -

It has most probably been factored into the price it will have some effect but not a lot.0 -
So if the BOE didn't drop rates next week the pound may continue to recover?
A rate drop is unlikely to help borrowers because their real interest rates are not falling. Mortgage collars, increased fees and the high inter bank rate are seeing to that.0 -
could you imagine if the boe came out next week and said theyre leaving the rates the same, maybe that would have a better result on our economy?0
