The issue is they say the boiler needs replacing as they can't get parts- which is why they now say they are cancelling the contract

That is covered in the ts + cs.

Yes, but from the information given, it isn't the boiler that needs replacing, but rather the cylinder, which is only six years old.

Which they say that they cannot get parts for.

They look to be able to weasel out of a claim by cancelling the policy if the boiler is more than 10 years old
  • Which model of cylinder is it, exactly?

According to https://www.gledhill.net/uploads/Terms-Conditions-GBP-April-2018.pdf some types are guaranteed for ten years.

Thank you for the various comments.

BG advised us that the only way to repair the faulty heating coil in our leaking cylinder would be by installing a new cylinder. This was confirmed by the manufacturer. It is covered by a guarantee from Gledhill but we accepted the recommendation from BG the following day that we replace the leaking cylinder and old boiler with a new combi boiler. So BG decided that was the best thing to do with our central heating and water system.

At that stage we had been without hot and cold water for seven days and given our urgent child care responsibilities we accepted offer of a priority installation. Installation actually went smoothly.

How did you end up dealing with a salesman when you had instigated a claim on your homecare for the cylinder?

Presumably they will say you agreed to the purchase of a new boiler - did you sign anything?

    Thank you

We agreed to the installation of the new boiler and decided - in view of the urgency - to pursue our claim afterwards on the Homecare policy. We had been without hot and cold water for seven days and given our child care responsibilities accepted offer of a priority installation.

I guess the cooling off period has expired..? In case you did have some redress with Gledhill, who knows? It is probably moot now but BG have a hell of a rep for foisting combi boilers on people; I think they may get some kind of kickback for it, don't know.

Yes, they say that, but that is clearly b*llocks, because it is entirely possible to acquire a new cylinder!

Basically another sad tale of the BG **** artists selling a grossly overpriced new boiler installation, rather than honour the policy by replacing the hot water cylinder:mad: .
Too late now -but a local firm would probably have done the same job at half the price!!
