Hi all,
This idea might sound insane!
At present i am buiding a pergola/ summerhouse. I was thinking, to keep it cheap and easy and easy to cut and handle,.. could be possible to use Cellotex Kingspan TP10 2400 x 1200 x 25mm for the roof?
IT WILL NOT BE SEEN!
I will fit a rubber liner on top , as needs to be waterproof but underneath it will be battened with Calico material and lights!!!
Your thoughts please?
thank you
Keithtoon.

Do you know how expensive that stuff is? It's not very money saving if it's not actually insulating anything! 25mm isn't going to be very strong either. I'd be worried it would blow off in a storm.

insulation boards have zero load bearing capacity, they're not intended to be used as sheathing or as a deck for a rubber roof, they'll just break when it gets windy

    Thank you,
Strictly no load as it will be sandwiched between wood runners, the rubber is only for water-proofing, ie pond liner.

Wind is a load, as is snow although harder to imagine at the moment...

It's a waste of insulation, you'll just be picking it out of the garden after it breaks in the wind and falls/blows out.

What the purpose of the celotex, for use as a roof deck? You can't bond the EPDM to it and it will flex. Cheaper to throw up a couple of sheets of OSB if you want a cost effective solution.

The Cellotex may be free but you still have to spend time and effort building the pergola.

You will then almost certainly have to spend more time, effort and money demolishing it and rebuilding it with the proper materials when it falls to pieces. ;)

    thank you,
the pergola is built and looks greatt, but was thinking of a little shade!
So i was given some cellotex and i thought mmm could i lay that on top of 25mmx25mm battens , pond line it for rain then to look pretty calico underneath and lights.
No load bearing or any weight on top but someone said heavy snow will bring it down? the battens should look after that? they will be placed every 150mm if we ever get any lol.....
    Pergola roof 2400 x 2400, shade area 50%
    Thanks for all your comments1
