Capping a washing machine pipe

Hi,
We’ve just bought a house where the washing machine has been removed, and when you run water in the sink it comes out from the end:

I want to cover it in case the tennant doesn’t fit a washing machine right away, I measured it and it’s around 40mm, so I bought this but it doesn’t fit: https://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-t23u-multifit-blanking-plug-white-40mm/96079
When I say doesn’t fit, it’s completely the wrong part, rather than the wrong size. What should I get please? Thank you
