Up early as too hot to sleep. Had a nice day yesterday, a friend called in for coffee and a snack at lunchtime and then I had a surprise invitation to join my neighbours and some friends for chicken and salad. Wine may have been consumed!

Have shifted a large storage box to near my kitchen door and filled it with logs. Hopefully this will prevent a repeat of last winter when I was snowed in and couldn't get to my logs for the log burner. Area looks neat and tidy now unlike me who is dirty, hot and sweaty.

Dumpling, good luck with the weight loss you sound very determined.
Judi Hope you manage to get way for a well deserved break.

Hello all, have been up since 4 as it was just too warm upstairs. I've been sleeping on bed as opposed to in bed but my OH is a very warm person and he was radiating heat at me spitefully.

I am halfway through kitchen blitz, not the best idea on such a hot day but it really needs it and I don't think it is going to be much cooler later in the week. I'm having a quick break now. So far today I've had 4 cups if tea, a vitamin C drink and about a gallon of water, still thirsty thpugh and we've just refilled our poor postie's water bottle, trudging round with the post can't be a load of fun, not like going out for a little amble about.

TA I hope that you get some help from the GP today.

Nelski I can only wish you best of British with the banana shenanigans, I am afraid that I'd be inclined to tell her where to stick her bananas but you must be a nicer person than me.

Judi, I am sending you virtual patience and forbearance but also the use of my large hitting stick.

I had better go and get on with that blooming kitchen, it won't clean itself even though I spoke nicely to it.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

The pc keyboard has died. Mr LW tried to log in yesterday and kept getting the "password is wrong" message.

Now, before I continue, you need to realise, Mr LW was an IT techie before he retired; when I worked outside the home, I was a finance officer. So naturally I'm the one to sort out weird IT issues, yes?

Anyways, he couldn't make out what was wrong, so I took a look, Transpired the keyboard wasn't registering Capital S. Small s, and all other capitals fine, just no Capital S. Further investigation revealed some other anomalies - use Right Shift to get the @ and you got a strange "java notepad" screen. And a few other things - all very random.

Concluded the problem was Mr LW trying to feed it a glass of wine the night before last.

Anyways, fortunately (for him) @mazon had the exact same keyboard available; so I've added some of his anti-snoring spray to the order (it won't eat anything and he'll need it eventually) to get it to over £20 (I hate paying P&P) and used some of my vouchers, so no cash outlay. :money:

Meantime, we've resurrected the old @lienware keyboard, which doesn't have a nice "feel" to it, and a load of the letters are worn off the keys, but it'll serve til the new one arrives.

I shall then carefully stash the @lienware one away against they next Keyboard Krisis. :D

    Afternoon all,

Fairly dull here but very warm.DGD has been here most of the weekend, and her other Nana picked her up around 1,they were going for a bike ride round the park.An hour later she walked back in with Nanas pedal in her hand to see if DS1 could fix it.It was the 1st time she'd been on it and bought it 2nd hand.Anyway DS tried but says the thread is gone on the nut so they had to put them in the car and go home .Her DH is a mechanic so he can sort it I'm sure. When we were outside Nana spotted next door but ones cat limping badly.I tried to pick him up but he wouldn't let me so I went to tell the neighbour and she's taken him to the vet.

I've got a new laptop arriving this afternoon. This one is getting a bit slow and has so many dead pixels on the screen I have a job reading sometimes. The new one is to be kept hidden from DGC :D I want to use it mainly for DHs invoices and other admin.DH also is in the habit of browsing Fb eating his toast

Poppy I was so sorry to hear your news, lots of healing thoughts coming your way x.
TA ((hugs for you both ))

Judi,I feel for you.Hope you manage to get away.

Speky, glad you had a nice time.
LW does the anti snoring spray work ? I hate wearing earplugs!

Cranky/tru I also need arch support due to over pronation. In summer I tend to wear Sc holl sandals with a bioprint footbed, and in winter I put orthotic insoles of the same make in my shoes or boots.Twice I've torn ligaments in my knees which took ages to heal and was really painful, and if I ever forget to put them in,it only takes a couple of hours before I can feel twinges in my knees :(

Nothing much happening here, though the sun is trying to come out now. Might sit out for an hour with my book,I feel tired after having DGC since Friday, there's never much of a rest with them around :D

    Take care everyone xx

    Afternoon all
We also had a bad night's sleep partly because of the heat. Mr Fix It is still not 100% either, now he's feeling sick every time he eats something :(.
Over the road neighbour, not a lot between the ears, but a heart of gold, told us that he had to help Joan last night. He said she was on the doorstep shouting for help and constantly ringing her doorbell. She wanted someone to shut her windows in case of burglars. (She only has the tiny top opening ones). He went over and sorted her out, we honestly didn't hear a thing and we were still up.
Today it's overcast and humid but there is a breeze, thank goodness.
This morning we visited a b&* superstore as Mr fix It's reciprocating saw has died ( oooh er ) but they didn't have the one which was half price, as advertised on their website. Naughty b&*, sprat to catch a mackerel, unfortunately for them we walked out empty handed instead of buying a dearer one. We also took Dad with us as Morries was next door and he wanted some shopping..... no bananas needed though :D. I don't know why he loves the shop so much, as they had no decaff coffee at all and not much choice of wholemeal bread. As Dad wanted to have something to eat, we decided to try the cafe, big mistake ! We had sandwiches, which had no filling and Dad had a jacket potato, with frozen tuna filling  so I took them back. I moaned about the prices and the quality, just as he does if we dare to go to Tesco, but it was water off a ducks back.
Dad wanted to call in the surgery to collect his script on the way home and I chatted to the receptionist, apparently she didn't know that he had a daughter, as he had never mentioned me :(.
We came home and Mr Fix It ordered a new saw from Screw*ix and we have collected it, boys and their toys eh ! Now he's inspecting the inside of his eyelids.
Tea tonight will be plain steak and oven chips ( sweet potato fries for me ). I am hoping it won't upset Mr Fix It's digestion.
Holly thanks for the start off.
Nelski hope your day went better than expected. Perhaps you could ask your adopted Mum JackieO to take the reins for a change. She seems to have her 3 DGC in hand and that's no mean feat :D
TA I hope the GP could offer some insight into Mr TA's latest problem.
Speky things are looking up for you ;)
LW fancy Mr LW wasting a perfectly good glass of wine on his keyboard :rotfl:

Sorry for waffling, it's just been one of those days.
Take care and hugs to anyone who wants or needs one.
    nan xx
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently
  • Gosh its 'ot, have the fan going in the sitting room, but its really not cooling it much, both of us are like limp dish rags.

Laundry done, dried and put away.........

Sat out for morning tea, it was too hot by lunchtime, sitting room curtains closed, although the sun has moved round to the back now, its blasting into the back door, so sitting room door to the kitchen closed as well.

Appointment made to see the Doc re my back tomorrow afternoon, have spent most of the afternoon lying on the settee/chaise longue, just get up and walk around, stretch slightly and then back to lying down.

    Evening all.

Thanks for thinking of me, past couple of days have been tricky again though DM is getting stronger I think. Sitting in a chair is helping her get used to being vertical again and she's eating 'better'.

Today I drove up to my place to collect a couple of things and check the post. I left here at 9.00am, picked up some printing from the print shop, arrived home by 12 noon'ish, called in at college for 20 mins and was back here at 4.00pm. Crackered!

I left DM with a flask of tea, lots of water, a plate of sandwiches and three wee pots of salady stuff. She was fine.

It's been rainy and clammy here, not very nice. At home my grass could do with being cut though it was too wet to do today. Next time.

Now I'm going to lie down, my thoughts and virtual hugs are being sprinkled around the people in this thread.

  • Went to wash up after supper....no water.......brilliant...apparently there is a leak in the village and the whole village is off. They could have let us know, what happened to the van going round letting people know they were going to have to turn the water off? Thankfully we have friends who came to our rescue with 2 x 10L containers of fresh water.

Gers pleased that your Mum seems to be recovering slowly.

Gers glad your DM is getting better I never thought I would say it but goodness where is the rain I live in the very hot southeast and its becoming very uncomfortable and there seems to be little or no air around

DD's back is still giving her gyp and she's really not a well little lass at all at the moment .

DGS Ben had an interview today but he won't hear until later if he's got the job. There were 9 people also being interviewed so a 10-1 chance :)

I came home this afternoon and got stuck into my ironing ,I felt like a wet dishrag by the time I had finished, but its all done and I had my third shower of the day just now before going up to bed shortly in the hope of getting some sleep,

More of the same sun again tomorrow Bah humbug :):):)

Too hot to even knit as well ,everything seems sticky and horrible.I am off to have a read and lay on top of my duvet Just checked the outside temperature and its reading 23c !!!

Still drinking gallons of water :)and keeping jugfuls in the fridge, I may fill a hot water bottle with some icy cold water to take to bed :):):)

Speky your lady friend sounds a sensible lass and definitely one to get on board here

Night ,Night God Bless all here

    JackieO xx
