Old Style Daily Monday 23rd July 2018

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

I’ve been sat here with the fan on reading a book for the past hour and I’m now going to have a cup of tea and a read of a few things on the internet for a while.

It was a really warm, cloudy and humid day here yesterday so I’m hoping that the sun will manage to break through a bit today. I would prefer it to be hot and sunny rather than hot and humid. Still no sign of any rain though.

Not a lot planned for today. The usual boring household chores I will probably go into town and get a bit of shopping at some point. I will stop and have a coffee at one of the high street places so that I can indulge in a bit of people watching for a little while and then walk home through the park.

Judi enjoy your time in Devon.

TA I hope that the GP is able to do something to help Mr TA when you go today.

Snoozer I hope you enjoyed your trip to London to see Graham Nash.

Csarina I’m sorry to hear that your back is no better. Back pain can really limit what you are able to do.

Hester I hope that there is a space for you to move to one of your planned spots today.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

    Morning hello.gif

Have a great holiday Judi :D

I was very grumbly yesterday afternoon – it was hot and muggy here and I felt drained. Also I had to wear my completely flat shoes for a couple of days while waiting for my shaped trainers to dry after washing them. My hip protested at this and my lower back wasn't happy either, I couldn't get comfy at all, even when lying down.

It's quite cool at the moment (though it's supposed to be hot later) so I'll get few things done early, and my trainers are dry so walking will be easier. I need more of these trainers but they're always out of stock. I bought them from New Look, the first time I wore them I came back from a walk with no limp, it was complete chance that I chose a pair that make me walk properly, lol. I think I'm going to have to go to a sports shop and buy overpriced running shoes.

I have some work to do today, shouldn't take longer than an hour. I'm not taking Scampi out til about 9am, hopefully when we get back it'll still be cool enough to go in the greenhouses for a tidy up. What I do this afternoon depends on the weather, if it's too hot I'll be doing nothing :D

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Sun shining and already very warm, still no rain forecast.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, but he's awake and drinking a glass of water before he goes for a run. Once he gets back he'll have brekkie and catch a lift with me to my work car park and then on to the gym from there.

Lunch yesterday was a cheeky one, ready made frozen roast potatoes, pork loin chops with a pepper and paprika rub, peas, broc and gravy - it was an easy one as I knew I wouldn't have a gas hob and possibly an oven - but the oven is working so that made cooking a whole lot easier. Tonight we'll be using up food from the fridge which will be fresh burgers and sausages with some salad and new potatoes (I'll cook those in the micro). I'll get some more rolls on the way home from work.

Back to work today for me, seems like ages since I've been in, but I did call in on Thursday to pick up my set of keys.

I have made contact with the gas engineer but haven't heard anything back from him, but hoping he'll be able to visit tonight to reconnect the gas - that'll be brilliant another job ticked off the list, just need to get a plumber to come and sort out the kitchen sink, DW and WM - we have made contact with a plumber that we've used before and is a mate of DH - hoping to hear from him today.

We worked hard again yesterday and other than the plumbing and gas reconnect - there's only the wall unit to be fixed in situ then it's finished and I have to eat my words it looks really fab, I wasn't really sure to start off with but the worktop looks excellent and just making a few adjustments to how it was, has made such a difference - I've decided on a much less cluttered look is the way forward, so other than the essentials everything that can possibly be put in a cupboard is in a cupboard. It seemed to take ages yesterday to get the contents of the cupboards put back but I just did it taking my time, I do have 1 cupboard that needs to be emptied and contents looked at as it seems to be a constant mess - once the new wall unit is in situ I'll have some extra space so will be able to have a move around I have an idea of how but need to see if it's going to work in practice!. I also have a new bin attached to the inside of the new base unit, so my awful bin has gone and the base unit is quite large so I've gained some extra storage space behind the bin at the back of the cupboard.

Amazing what a decent night's sleep and looking at everything with fresh eyes can do - feel so much better about it all and the plumbing not going right is a pain but I'm sure it can be fixed.

    Keep safe and well x

    Hi all :)

Bit grey again this morning. Sun came through lovely yesterday afternoon so will probably do the same again ..its already 20 which is too hot for this time.

Anyway todays the day I have not looked forward to but had to happen at sometime of course ...its banana gazing day at morrisons. I wish I could say I was looking forward to seeing her after all these weeks but sadly that would be a lie. I have an appointment up at the hospital near her as well for a final discharge and in my infinite wisdom figured it was a good idea to invite mum to come with me. Watch this space to see if I regret that decision.

Had a really productive day yesterday till the sun came out. Gave the fridge/freezer a real good clear out and scrub and even washed all the green bags I keep the veg in ....they looked v odd all on the line. 2 dishwasher loads and 3 washes later saw everything that could be washed and stood still for long enough get washed ...the last wash load contained a pair of sandals that I have worn to death so were a bit stinky, a floor mat, my handbag, 2 cotton shopping bags and a tea towel. That was one noisy wash for sure but everything came out sparkly clean:D

TA hope all goes well as poss at the docs today

    Have a great day all
  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLY for starting us off again. It's been a horrible muggy night, despite having the windows wide open. Mr TA had another bad night as well, which meant I did too. This morning I feel like a wet dish rag.

We have the GP this morning but I am not expecting miracles. After 5 months of suffering this inability to eat/digest food we are no further forward with a solution or any help coping with it.

We haven't heard from GERS for a few days I don't think. Hope things are as well as they can be for her and DM.

JUDI have a nice break in Devon (if you managed to get any packing done!) HESTER hope you soon find a "home". I heard on the local news that part of the Leeds/Liverpool canal up here has been closed to barges and boats due to lack of water!

Righto jobs I was too tired to do last night now await. DW to empty and a pile of washing to put in the machine. Then sort myself out! Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the sad, worried or lonely who want.need them. Take care all xx

    Morning all

Another lovely day here it will be such a shock to the system when the weather turns for the winter.

Off to work for me and its the start of the summer holidays here so I think it will be very busy for the next six weeks, we have lots of events on so some days it will be mega busy, at least it makes the time fly by.

Dinner tonight will be some cold sliced gammon with some dolphinoise type potatoes I found in aldi with salads, nice and easy.

Camelot the chairs can be expensive but I got them for a bargain price and they do tend to hold their value, dd loves them, hope your dd's move is going ok xx

Right better get on, there is a funny photo and video of evie on my FB, she went pond dipping and dust bathing and got into a slight mess !!

    Have good days all xx

    Morning All,

First day of the six week holiday. It will be a break from work, but nothing else for me. I have to put moms house up for sale, and just get on with it. I am going to get another valuation this week and then up it goes for sale.

Went out yesterday to visit my MIL, SIL and her hubby. Had a lovely a afternoon tea at Dobbies afterwards. We had not been over for a while .

I have the throws from the settee in the WM.
I will be listening to plenty of music to get me through today, paper work, decluttering and housework.

    Have a good day x

    Morning All

Good luck with the great banana hunt today Nelski!
Glad you're happy with the kitchen nmlc.
    Happy holidays Judi.
Hope all goes well at the Drs TA.

We had a lovely brunch yesterday, a full cooked breakfast and I didn't eat anything else all day! Had a wander around some shops too and got a couple of very large planters from B&Q that were reduced.

I'm going to buy some fence paint today, just to cheer up my neighbour! I haven't seen him all weekend so hope he's calmed down a bit. My other neighbours are delighted with the new fence on their side thank goodness.

It's lovely out at the moment but I think we are due rain from about 9am, the washing can go inside today.

Happy Monday everyone, take care. XX

    Morning everyone,

Dry, bright and sunny here, already warm and it’s meant to be hot all week here in the East.

We have the men coming to do the hedge today, have put it off as long as possible so the birds and bees can enjoy the blossom etc but it’s starting to feel like the enchanted forest here :) It will be hard work for them in the heat so have topped up the ice cubes in preparation for lots of cold drinks.
Need to speak to my DSIL as there was talk yesterday of her coming home today so will either be helping with that or visiting if not. She is fed up with them taking blood for testing and her poor arms are covered in bruises.
Thinking of the TA’s and their appointment today, also of Gers and her DM.

Happy holidays Judi, have fun banana shopping Nels :D

Have a good day all, take care folks x

Morning chums and another uncomfortable night slepwise Possibly a nanny nap later I am on 'boy' referreeing today as three of them are at home for the summer holidays Mainly its keeping them amused and strife free for the next few weeks until we all go on holiday.

They are not too bad on the whole though, Jack is easy going and mainly lurks in his bedroom playing his guitar, and Henry and Mikey are OK as long as they are doing something .

They are the two who tend to argue a bit when bored ,and Granny just doesn't do bored :) The youngest will have a paint brush stuck in his hand today and he will be painting the front fence and the older one will hopefully be doing something equally useful for me in the back garden :)

If they are doing something, they forget to argue and bicker .Mikey rises to his brothers baiting just as his Aunt and Mum did over 40 years ago :):) I am quite good and managing them though as I have had 14 years of practice.plus the carrot and stick works quite well :)

My poor DD slept awkwardly on Saturday night, and yesterday was in a lot of discomfort with her back.I am hoping she is better today.

Have a good Monday chums, and try to keep cool as if you are in southern England to forecast is another very warm week

    JackieO xx
