Fabb Sofas - extended cover?

Hi
We purchased a sofa from Fabb in July last year, took delivery in September. I have only just found out they have gone into administration.
We purchased the extended accidental damage insurance thingy (for things like staining, spillages, tears) to run in addition to their "15yr guarantee" for the frame and springs.
Where do we stand? I cant seem to find my paperwork and Google isnt bringing much out. We paid quite a lot to add this extra onto our purchase, and paid up front on our debit card for the sofas and for the policy.
Thanks in advance.

You need to ascertain who was to provide the 'insurance'. If it was Fabb themselves you're now a creditor, if it was a third party you should be OK, providing Fabb passed on the policy premium.0

I need to find my paperwork. The thing i found online about their administrators said they would be contacting all customers but so far we havent heard anything. Relatively early days.
But with a 5yr old and a young dog... the reason we took the damage cover still stands so I am more than a little worried that we entirely wasted our money!0 -
You should have received paperwork stating the details of your insurance policy - if you're lucky, it's with an external company like Staingard or Guardsman. I must admit I'm surprised at the length of their guarantee, the quality of their furniture was such that I would not expect it to last anywhere near that long if you actually sit on it...
Just fyi if you have household contents insurance, any accidental damage is likely to be covered by your existing insurance. Just remember to check the terms and conditions before making a claim, as some policies exclude damage by pets or children.Well informed on the subjects of sofas and wood furniture, and well opinionated on everything else :rotfl:0 -
Yeah and I know the policy we added with them included child damage and pet damage (although the latter was limited to one a year). We have had no issues at all with the quality or build of our recliner sofas. But definitely they stated a 15yr guarantee as i said above.
Where on earth is that paperwork!?:mad:0 -
I am asking the same question. I have a 15 year guarantee on my sofas with stain protection. If the sofa is no longer guaranteed, then surely it is worthless. I would rather the finance company take the sofas back and buy a new one elsewhere. Any ideas welcome0

Why would the sofa be worthless without a guarantee? You can use it and enjoy it, but you will have to pay for any repairs. Not ideal but its not worthless in itself0

If there's a finance company involved you're likely to have Section 75 protection. See: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/section75-protect-your-purchases/#what.
MSE's article talks mainly about credit cards, however where a loan was taken out for a specific purchase, arrange through and paid directly to a retailer, Section 75 usually comes in to play.
Section 75 doesn't mean you're entitled to a refund. What it does means is the lender is responsible for fulfilling the contract if the retailer can't.0 -
HI there, I too, have a couch from Fabb which is faulty and i got it repaired and faulty again. Went to ask for a refund and for them to collect the couch and found out they are in administration. Spoke to finance company who are liable due to the 74 consumer act, section 75, who are offering to repair it, again. The couch is awful and has unreasonable wear and not fit for purpose after the repair. Do I have any right to a refund as I've already accepted a repair from Fabb which still hasn't fixed the problem? We both have had bad backs and getting worse by the day. Going to have to move our couches and get another couch in or sit on floor with dog. Any advice from experts here would be much appreciated. Thanking you all in advance. Feel like stopping payments as feel they are in breach of contract as we would be too if stopped payment0

Kerrudles, you have the same rights with the finance provide as you did with the retailer, so you can treat them exactly as you would have treated fabb sofas themselves. As the original repair failed you should be able to reject the sofa for a refund. I'm assuming the fault the sofa has now is the same fault that was repaired? If this is all within the first 6 months of the day it was delivered to you the first time, they are not entitled to deduct anything for the use you may have had from it.
Personally, I would say don't let them do another repair and try to insist on the refund you should be entitled to. I presume they have at least admitted that it's faulty?Well informed on the subjects of sofas and wood furniture, and well opinionated on everything else :rotfl:0 -
Hi, sorry to re-ignite this thread.
I have contacted the finance company V12 who have advised me I need to pay for an independent report as to the fault in the sofa (main cross beam has snapped and ripped through the underside fabric.
We have never miss-used the sofa or jumped around on it - it looks like the staples were to closely installed to the edge of the wood.
I have the warranty paper work and the add on for accidental repairs/replacements.
If I pay for any of the process, surely V12 are not offering me a like for like services as Fabb would not have charged me for repair.
I have emailed the ombudsman for advice -0
