Old Style Daily Sunday 22nd July 2018

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

I have decided that I am going to empty every kitchen cupboard and see exactly what is in them, because I’m ashamed to admit that I don’t know. I don’t know for sure what is in the food cupboards, although I have a pretty good idea, and I think that there are probably gadgets that haven’t seen the light of day for a long while lurking at the back of the lower ones.

I have got one load for the washing machine, and that will easily dry on the line in this weather. It was a bit cloudy at times yesterday, but the rain missed us here.

I’m not sure what dinner will be, but I am leaning towards a chicken salad with some new potatoes if I can bear to put the oven on in this heat. If I can’t I will portion it up and grill a breast and freeze the rest.

TA I do wish that there was something that I could do to help you in real life. I hope that the GP can help on Monday.

Thinking of all of you with problems, worries and health problems both your own and those of your loved ones.

Have a god day everyone whatever you are doing.

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.

It is dull and overcast but already quite warm.

I have no interesting plans today - yesterday the bathroom got blitzed, today is the kitchen's turn. I need to make a start on my friend's Yoda but have a baby cardie to finish first, that's just an hour's work and something I can do with the TV on. When I get to Yoda, I am a bit exercised about the feet, will have to do more googling.

Sending good wishes for all of us who are unwell or worried.

  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLY for starting us off. It's looking rather gloomy outside but no rain forecast. Just cloud and muggy most of the day.

Not a lot planned for today but I could find lots of jobs if I really wanted to! I have left the ironing basket out on show in case I forget about it! Not a lot in there, mostly t shirts, but it gets daunting if I don't keep on top of it.

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for all the poorlies, sad or worried who want/need them. Take care all xx

TA I cleared my ironing basket last week and now things have jumped back into it, this is an obvious case of sneaking and low cunning on the part of my clothes.

Morning everyone and thanks for the start Holly.

Have been out in the garden, topping up the food and water for the birds as well as doing my pots. I picked 8 cherry toms from my hanging basket, after years of using a grow bag I am converted to this way, stops the pests from getting to them. I did notice that our apple tree now has some yellow leaves :( it’s an old, established tree and not a small one so it must really be feeling the drought conditions. We don’t have a hosepipe ban yet but we haven’t been using one on the shrubs etc, I might see if we can just leave it running at a gentle trickle at its base for an hour or so, would hate not to get any apples this year.

Not much planned for today, I have planned on chicken for lunch but am seriously thinking about cooking it now whilst it’s relatively cool, it’s done then.

Have a good Sunday all, take care folks x

    Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off Holly

It's already very warm today, not sure what I'll get done. There are several jobs needed to be done but I just don't have the energy.

The garden is so dry, I'm trying to water the salad, veg and fruit, the rest will just have to look sad.
Any ideas what I can do with too many cucumbers, they seem to grow overnight? I have at least another 5 ready to pick.

Orchids seem to be enjoying this weather. I have 8, only supermarket ones bought over the years. 5 are in flower, 2 about to flower and the other one has just finished flowering. I always find they lift my spirits, they are so delicate and beautiful.

Hope you all have a good day

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that need/want one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Cloudy and overcast but hot already - we had quite a bit of cloud for most of the day yesterday but it was really hot when the sun did break through the clouds. The forecast is much the same for the coming days too.

DH and I are up enjoying peaceful cuppas, he's already doing some grouting in the kitchen, we're nowhere near as finished as we'd hoped and have hit snags along the way - the major one being that the plumbing for the new sink is proving tricky, so at present I can't use the kitchen sink, dishwasher or washing machine, we have got the water turned back on and can use both bathrooms upstairs, so water is not a problem. Also we have stuff everywhere and I mean everywhere - I'm hoping that by the end of today we can put some stuff back to where it belongs - at least that way everywhere doesn't feel quite such a mess, my dining room only has enough floor space left to have a single path way through to the lounge and to the stairs - I'm assured that it will all be worth it - at the moment that's proving a bit difficult to visualise! The worktops do look very nice but it needs to be a functioning kitchen to be any good!

    So on to today -
it'll be more of the same although worktops are in situ, it'll be more trying again to sort the plumbing out, putting things back that can go back, trips to the recycling centre and hopefully by tonight things will feel a bit more normal. Workman is coming back next Saturday morning to finish off as there's 1 last cabinet to put on the wall that they didn't get time for yesterday, all of us except DS2 are working next Saturday so DS2 will need to be here to help.

We'll also be going back to the big orange shed shop as we've found a bin in their catalogue that fits inside the new base cabinet that was fitted yesterday, hoping we can purchase/order one as DH can fit this then I can get rid of my awful kitchen bin. I'm planning on having a major sort out of the items in my kitchen and I'm hoping that I can have just the kettle, bread bin, microwave, utensil jar and 2 x metal paper holders that fit in the gap under the wall unit in a corner that can't really be used on the worktops - everything else will live in a cupboard - that's the theory anyway! Also gas engineer said he could come back Monday night, I just need to text him Monday morning.

Lunch will be pork loins, roast potatoes (I'm ashamed to say they are ready made frozen one's in a big but thought it was an easy option if needed and it's needed!) we'll have peas/veg that I can micro with it and some gravy - we certainly won't starve.

I need to get moving, shower is calling.

    Sorry for my moany post.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

Another sleepless night...got stuff on my mind that won't go away. I'm having weird and wonderful dreams too. Last night I went to visit Mom in the great retirement home in the sky. The night before I was living in a tent in the middle of nowhere.

Need to get organised today as we are going to the van in Devon for a few days tomorrow. Wish I lived near the sea, can't stand the travelling these days and Barbies jeep isn't exactly comfortable. It's functional but not comfortable.

Food shopping today for stuff for Youngest to eat whilst we are away and stuff to take with us.

Nmlc grouting is a mucky job isn't it? Grump has just finished the bathroom. In fairness only one patch needed doing but he bought a new tool and did the whole of the bath area. Must admit, he's great doing stuff in the house as he's such a perfectionist but time has told me that he needs to be in complete solitude or he starts yelling at people who get in the way. Prodigal got yelled at yesterday for needing the loo. I was standing next to him and his yelling hurt my ear drum. Yesterday, me and the much loved hounds spent most of the time upstairs out of his way. I was crawling up the walls by tea time.:rotfl:

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all.
