Recover Hotmail password

I have been asked by a friend to help him reset his password for his Hotmail account. He can receive and send emails on his laptop as that remembers the password. He is asking because he now has a smartphone and would like to read his emails on that.
He doesn't have a backup email or phone number.
Most importantly he doesn't want to lose access to his email on his laptop.
Can anyone suggest the best way I can help him?

Thank you but that’s where I read about the requirement for a backup email or phone number which he doesn’t have.0

If he can login to his email on his laptop then he can change the password under his account settings.0 -

Problem sorted. Thanks for all the suggestions. He uses Outlook via the Chrome browser. It turns out that Chrome was remembering the password and we retrieved it from the Chrome advanced settings.0
