I am thoroughly fed up with Virgin Media. Prices keep increasing they fail to add new channels like FreeSport and Paramount and the customer service is awful. I only need to give one months notice. If I chose a company/package that is not cable do I have to put a new phone line in. Many of the television channels are on freeview so i was considering a broadband phone anytime package like Plus Net or the Post Office both of which have been suggested to me.i do have a TV aerial and we had a BT phone line 7 years ago before switching to a Virgin Package. Any advise will be appreciated.

Yes you will need a phone line installed if you go elsewhere.
Avoid PO as they are resold TalkTalk.0 -
I am 100% in agreement. All the new channels Virgin Media are offering are already available on Freeview. We will lose Gold and Alibi amongst others. I have been a virgin Media customers for 8 years and now is the time for a change, enough is enough. Virgin do not seem interested in customer loyalty. I am currently paying just over £72 for the Top XL package with phone calls anytime (does not include 0845 numbers or mobile calls). Sky are offering a reasonable deal at the moment of just below £55 for phone anytime, Broadband, and TV including all the channels Virgin no longer supply plus Sky Atlantic which is the one I am seriously considering. If you want a phone anytime and broadband package. PlusNet seems good if you want broadband and phone. Fibre Broadband speed is 36mb and phones calls are free anytime that includes calls to mobiles and 0845 numbers. The cost is £34 77 a month. You will also need to buy a Humax Box or similar for recordings which will cost approximately £170. The only disadvantage to me would be not being able to receive Sky Sports News which I use a lot. I don't know how much it will cost to reconnect the line. I believe Line rental is included in both prices. Maybe another contributor can come up with other suggestions of better deals. Goodbye Virgin Media for me.0

Are you looking at a different list? Of ten new channels on VM only three are on Freeview:
BT Sport UHD (30th July),subscription on Youview.
FreeSports, on Freeview
IQTV (on-demand), not on Freeview
Horse and Country, not on Freeview
Love Nature HD, not on Freeview
Now 80s, on Freeview
Paramount Network HD, not on Freeview
Vice, not on Freeview
YourTV, on Freeview
ZooMoo HD, not on Freeview0 -
Yes but most of those channels do not interest me like Gold and Alibi. I will certainly be leaving virgin Media and if anyone can come up with better/cheaper alternatives than mentioned in my original post they will be greatly appreciated. Thank you0

But you said they were on Freeview and most are not!
Gold is available on NowTV and Gold and Alibi are available on TVPlayer.0 -
OP, I just get BB and phone via Virgin as their cable speed is 3x better than the phone line speed I had with Plusnet. Currently pay about £35 a month with anytime calls included. I get my Sky fix via Now TV which costs me about £8 a month for movies and entertainment pass on a deal - usually £18 a month. To be honest, I've got used to watching freeview mostly anyway. Sky sports is about £32 a month on Now TV but you can get deals on that usually.
If you go back to BB through your phone line, you'll probably have to pay a reconnection fee assuming the physical line is there. Maybe just ditch VM Tv.0 -
Try to get Virgin down to £20/month quoting that NowTV are offering £20/month.0

I would just like to add my twopennies worth in saying I have also had enough of Virgin media. Poor customer service, prices keep increasing and channels do not compare with Sky. I am looking to purchase a Humax box and will go for a fibre broadband connection and phone anytime package. Plusnet is one I am considering and also johnLewis. I will steer clear of any company with connections with TalkTalk. I have enquired and I will need a new phone line which will cost in the region of £50 plus some companies have an additional connection charge. If I go with Sky I believe I will need to also purchase a satellite dish. There is lot to be considered and negotiations to see if I can get a deal but I will definitely be leaving Virgin Media after giving my 1 months notice as my contract has finished.0

JL is resold PN.
Sky will supply and fit a dish FOC which you will own and a box which you won't. Assuming you are talking about a subscription package.0 -
Sky BB and line rental circa £25 PM + phone package then add on cost for what TV packages you want .0
